The farce of the loan system: Aaron Ramsey edition on 10:16 - Feb 2 with 2694 views | RobTheMonk | Ramsey could have easily played for a team outside of the top six in the premier league, but has instead gone to Rangers where bar the games against Celtic, they're expected to win every game. His agent is a genius though. Wouldn't be surpised to see him end up in America somewhere down the line on a bumper package.

The farce of the loan system: Aaron Ramsey edition on 10:39 - Feb 2 with 2644 views | Parsley | I don't see how this loan works financially. Ramsey is on a huge contract at Juventus due to signing as a free agent (rumoured to be £400k a week) and from a quick search Rangers top players are on around £30k (estimated but seems realistic https://salarysport.com/football/scottish-premiership/rangers/). Forget Aberdeen he's probably earning near enough the same as the rest of the Rangers squad combined.

It's simple... Juventus are essentially subsidising Rangers title push. I can't see rangers are paying much more than say 50k awake of his wages but that's still a big dating for Juve (if he really is on 400k a week which is shocking if true). I'd tell someone to clatter him in the 1st 5 mins and that will probably keep quiet for tbe other 85

Weird isn't it. Had 4 offers apparantly, 2 from the Premier League, yet opted for Annan Athletic away.

Am I missing something, why would Juve subsidise their title push?

It saves them at least a bit of money, rather than having an unused player sitting around on full wages? I think it's a passive subsidisation, rather than a deliberate one. But it effectively is, in the sense than Rangers would not be able to outright afford a player on that kind of money (with the level of quality that theoretically implies).

Loans have long been controversial. I recall Chelsea lending Bobby Tambling to Crystal Palace around the old March deadline & Sheffield Wednesday, a relegation rival of Palace, went ballistic as they thought it was unfair. As it turned out, Tambling only played 3 games without scoring, but Palace escaped relegation by 1 point.

The farce of the loan system: Aaron Ramsey edition on 13:33 - Feb 2 with 2106 views | jayessess | It's pretty farcical that Premier League teams have 100+ professionals on their books, most of whom they know have no chance of ever making their first team - a situation that the FA basically encourages and reinforces. Juventus taking a huge hair cut on a bad transfer is less farcical.

I guess that if Ramsey does not perform very well for Rangers then Juventus have some ammunition for a lower offer when his contract is up but will we ever know how much of a saving they are making on salary during this loan?

Do you seriously think Juventus will be bursting to offer a new contract to a player who seems surplus to requirements & will be 32 when his hugely expensive deal expires?

Exactly this. Juve don't care about Rangers but they do like saving money. If Ramsey really is on 400k a week then his agent really pulled their pants down. A good player yes, a great player? No. A 400k a week player (even with no transfer fee) no. If I had his injury record I think I'd sit on my 400k a week and enjoy the Italian lifestyle. He should boss SPL really but we said that about Alan Judge in L1 didn't we so who knows

I think it's a good decision. Yes the standard is lower, but I'd much rather win a title, play in Europe and do the old firm matches for Rangers than play half a season on loan at somewhere like Southampton or Crystal Palace and finish 12th.

Should have looked it up, shouldn't I? But there has to be some bargaining power for them from how he performs at Rangers, maybe it could work the other way and improve their chances of helping him to make an early exit. There is another mystifying facet to this deal though, van Bronckhorst is not getting his team up to the level that it enjoyed under Gerrard and you have to wonder what Juventus might gain should Ramsey flop and not be the answer to the current score draw specialists.

The key is running your contract down at roughly your peak. £400k for 4 years is something like £80m total expenditure. There were probably 20 or more transfers that Summer alone that cost more over the life of the contract.

Think I've found an explanation as to why they'd be happy still paying most of his wages. Saves them from triggering a rather unusual automatic extension clause. "Juventus writer Giacomo Sutiero understands that Ramsey had an automatic renewal clause in his contract, extending his contract to 2024 if he stayed at Juventus until June." https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/aaron-ramsey-juventus-rangers-trans

Even at 29 which is peak for most footballers, Aaron Ramsey isn't worth £400k a week, esp with his injury record (maybe I miss remember but always thought of him as made of glass) It would be intesresting to see what those other transfers were to compare value for money because for me Ransey was part of one of the worst Arsenal teams for many many years and whilst he was clearly a talented footballer I wouldn't call him stand out even in that squad. People are bulking at £350k a week Aubamayang was on at Arsenal but I supposed when you add that to his £57 million transfer fee maybe it makes Ramsey look inexpenxive given his fee alone is neatly 3/4 of that £80 contract for Ramsey. I just think if his agent walked into my boardroom asking for 400k a week I'd have laughed him back out the door....transfer fee or not, he's not worth it. Not in my eyes anyway

Juventus are stuck with Ramsey unless someone else wants to pay a big chunk of his reported £400k weekly wage. Presumably they couldn't find any takers so they were happy to take £50k or whatever from Rangers. The one positive for Juventus is if Ramsey does well at Rangers & stays fit, someone else might offer to pay a larger amount of his wages next season - like Newcastle, for example.

If they stay up that's exactly where I can see him ending up. Maybe China or Middle Eastern club, feels like the market in China has plateaued somewhat.

Or sat in the stands on a cold rainy night in Glasgow watching your new team getting walloped by Celtic and wished you were in a trattoria on the Cinque Terre drinking in moderation and drawing four hundred thousand a week...
