Silverwood gone then on 19:23 - Feb 3 with 1104 views | Radlett_blue | Well, England have (rightly) got rid of Silverwood & Giles, in response to probably England's worst ever year in Test cricket. I think the coaching role should be split between Test & one day cricket as more specialisation of players is needed. Why, exactly, should Harrison go?There is already a lack of cricket expertise on the ECB; Harrison,at least, did play first class cricket.

Silverwood gone then on 19:31 - Feb 3 with 1081 views | Chrisd | We’ve been poor for the 12-15months and after the shambolic effort in Australia he couldn’t really stay on. It should be interesting to see whom the ECB appoint, someone with pedigree and a proven record hopefully. Gary Kirsten looks the outstanding candidate, he might sort out our openers too?! On a separate note, has anyone watched ‘Death of a Gentleman’ on Netflix? It’s a good watch. Certainly opened my eyes as to how corrupt the game has become at the very top and why the ECB are less interested in the longer format.

Harrison should go for the ECB's inept (at best) handling of the Yorkshire racism issue and for the ECB's systematic failure on race issue generally.

A combination of the short-terminal of The Hundred, failing to deal with claims of racism, taking a bonus over the last two years whilst laying off staff due to covid and then the general ineptitude of the Test management structure he has overseen.

Silverwood gone then on 20:03 - Feb 3 with 1016 views | Ace_High1 | Kirsten should have got the job when the useless Giles appointed Silverwood. He was the batsman for the job. Outside of that Alec Stewart strikes me as a very good man manager and talks a lot of sense. Ben Foakes might get a game then as well.

Kitsten has said he'd only take it on if it was the test dife only so would you appoint for limited overs?

Not sure Guthrum. Could be wrong, but I think he’s been around the England side in some capacity.

Fielding coach I thought. Wouldn't be averse to Colly. If we do have to go down the split coaches route, it's absolutely imperative we do all we can to get the best possible man in for the test side. As long as we don't slide too much in the shorter formats, I still look at the red ball game as the priority.

Give Eoin Morgan the one-day job on the proviso that he hangs up his boots. He can have the technical coaching backup - the coach's job is tactical not technical.

Think we need Morgan playing for a bit longer! However, Collingwood and he would be a heck of a team, IMO. [Post edited 4 Feb 2022 9:04]

That would be funny. He'd last six months before upsetting everyone. I say that as a fellow countryman of his.

Morgan is rightly seen as an excellent one day captain & I think he would potentially make a good one day coach & yes, that role is more about strategy than technique. He's already expressed his own doubt about playing in the 2023 World Cup, but plundering the 20/20 franchises for a while might suit him, whether as a player or a coach. I think Collingwood is in the frame to become "interim coach", to help select & then prepare the Test squad for the West Indies in March. Once Strauss has completed his review, I hope they decide to split the coaching role, which would put Kirsten in the frame for the Test job. Strauss is highly respected, but he also isn't entirely blameless as he, as Director of English Cricket, oversaw a regime with a brief to improve England's one day team. It worked well from that point of view, but with considerable detriment ot the Test side. Some new thinking, with a different balance, is required.

I don't think Root is a great captain, but as last year showed, it doesn't seem to affect his batting. He might become disillusioned if removed as captain, which you wouldn't want as he's England's best player. There are also no strong candidates to replace Root as captain. I agree. Root may not be the most inspirational captain, but he’s hardly got a lot to play with at the moment. The captaincy is certainly not affecting his batting and there is absolutely no one else in the squad that could be considered to captain them anyway. To be honest there is hardly any one of them that you would say is definitely going to be in the team on merit let alone captain.
