I loved it as a teenager, largely as it's the most obvious of gateway Punk records.
In my later teens and 20s, as I gravitated deeper into music subcultures, combined with Lydon these days and the manufactured side of the Pistols, made me go off it.
But the last couple of years, I guess with age and experience on my side, I can't help but say it may be a top ten punk record of all time.
They were kids and took advantage of, which I sympathise more with over the "sell out" angle these days.
Lyrically, it could have been written yesterday. Which is quite depressing. We've not changed much have we? Arguably we've got worse again.
Great album but I still prefer Flogging a dead horse for some reason. The greatest punk album of all time is Stiff Little Fingers Inflammable Material....imho.

I still have NMTB and Tonic for the Troops on vynil, along with Ruts, New Boots and Panties among others. Bought a record player a month or so ago. They sound great.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

Yeh ive got NMTB, TFTT and NB&P on vinyl and Rattus Norvegitus (sp???). Also got Parallel Lines and several others that I cant recall now. Hersham Boys on 12 inch Jimmy Jimmy on lurid green vinyl Oh Bondage Up Yours on some unusual label God Save The Queen
PIL showed Lydon to capable of making very, very good records. He was more than the Sex pistols showed. After all they were a Stooges cover band. With fashion designers. The intro to bodies is pure Stooges. Pretty Vacant is my favourite.

Just been out to the garage and have found Rattus Norvegicus. Sex & Drugs & Rock n Roll 12 inch. 999 Homicide, SLF Inflammable Material, Go For It, Hanx, Nobody's Heroes. Lots of 7 inch various artists.
Mrs is working away. Neighbours are going to love me this evening

Pretty much all of the above. But I'd also offer up The Only Ones' eponymous first album as a masterwork of f!ck!ng genius. And not just because of "Another Girl, Another Planet" although that is of course sublime.

I always liked the darker, heavier side of Punk when I was younger. I still play, and love, these two tracks today.
Doom are my fav d-beat band.
It does surprise me how much you like British culture seeing the music you liked in your youth. Most the 80s crust and HC was VERY Anarcho (and still is).
Not a dig, just curious how all those dots connect!

Same same although I swapped my NMTB album at school for Glory Boys by Secret Affair. I've got all Stranglers on vinyl up to Raven. Haven't got Parallel Lines, or any Blondie stuff actually, didn't see them as any more than a power pop group to be honest, although I did like Union City Blues, I think Robert Fripp may have been involved with that - although I could be wrong.
I had Identity on orange vinyl but lent it to a bird I fancied and never got it back.
Still got Sham's That's Life on a cassette, I just can't bear to throw it.
Tonic for the Troops was a bit ahead of it's time, I've got a few 12" Boomtown Rats stuff, including Diamond Smiles which I still really like. Can't stand Geldof though.
Last time I went through what I have (which isn't much anymore as I lost a load somewhere in a house move) I got a bit depressed really. It's strange, I can listen to a track, let's just say In a Rut by The Ruts and it takes me back to a certain day somewhere just living the dream. Don't get me wrong, I have a very good life now but I bloody ache all over and will probably die within 15 years.
Before I go I'd like to see us win a cup, take the grandkids to Amsterdam, hit the holy grail £10m turnover, get a 1959 GS Vespa and buy a new set of teeth.
It's not much to ask is it?
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”
Boris Johnson canvassing in Henley, 2005.
Fantastic album and I still play many tracks of it.
100% agree that Bodies is just a great musical track. The lyrics are obviously somewhat dodgy, but the guitar from Steve Jones is just awesome. I've seen a Sex Pistols video where part way through Steve is interviewed and he said "Bodies" was his favourite track to play.
While I wouldn't put them in the same "class" as The Beatles", Sex Pistols had something special about them in their day. Just love Steve's guitar and Lydon's voice was unique.
Apart from Bodies, "Pretty Vacant" and "Holiday in the Sun" were and still are brilliant, imho.

Feeling your mortality L.L. I try not to regret things but one that I do have is leaving my vinyl collection (along with everything else) in a bedsit in Huddersfield for a life not weighed down by worldly things.
I want this one back please....

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
On a different tangent, I'm just listing to Crooked Hill by Cam Cole and it occurred to me that while the music might be too bluesy for your tastes, I think you'd like the sentiment of his lyrics.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Talk of feeling old, one of the young guys at work did not know how to work a record player. he asked why bother with putting a needle onto this plastic thing just go on the net for music. I had to go home and look thru my record collection to feel warm and safe.
