It's be interesting to see GB -v- NI figures. [Post edited 19 Apr 2022 15:15]

Mate, if the private sector was as efficient, conscientious and hard working as you're claiming, this place would be empty and Phil and Gav would have had to get proper jobs years ago. [Post edited 19 Apr 2022 15:35]

IMF - UK will have 2nd worst performing economy in the G20 on 16:03 - Apr 19 with 1018 views | mutters | Last year we outperformed most, this year we are forecasted to be one of better performing economies so will currently take 2023 prediction with a massive 'lets see what happens'. Lots of policies can be implemented to impact growth between now and then I am sure these figures will be revisited in a few months and quite possibly the UK could be forecasted to do a lot better.

What is it about economic collapse, spurious promises of money that were never going to happen, the break up of the union, loss of protections to employment rights and ethe environment, open corrupt and xenophobia of the Brexit project that appealed to you?

How does GB look, comparatively, since December 2019? i.e pre-pandemic. Growing 5% in 2021 is not "performance" when the economy shrank by 10% in 2020; it's loosened restrictions partially regaining past losses. "let's see what happens" when inflation is 9% and interest rates are rising. Old people are going to die of hypothermia and malnutrition is going to make a name for itself (again). 12 hour waits at A&E. Record Covid deaths continue. Don't get old. Don't be ill. Don't be unlucky. Don't be poor.

Shame on you for doubting the withering economic analysis daveU has added to this thread. By withering economic analysis, I in fact mean an upvote for the OP.

God man you are like a broken record at times :-) The comment was related to the validity of the figures and how often they can change. What they project now will be very different in 6 months' time (either better or worse). The economy in 2021 was supposed to be shocking but it turned out better than originally projected.

My comment was around the numbers and how they are often prone to change as time goes on. I would be interested for my own curiousity about how accurate these projections have been over the years compared to what in reality occurred and what the delta was. The numbers you quote are the Spanish numbers not the UK numbers, and again when you compare them to the other major economies for 21 & 22 they do not look too bad. However, as you rightly raised, scratch below the surface and the actual social cost is horrendous.

"The IMF are wrong because they update their projections every six months" Not the greatest argument. It's easier to predict future economic performance in April 2022 than it was in October 2020. Check the performance since December 2019. Comparing 2021's actual result against projections made in late-2020 and claiming the result is indicative of the validity of the IMF's past and future projections is laughable.

The numbers I quoted were meant to be illustrative. Having looked, I think it's -9.7% (2020) and +7% (2021) for the UK.
