As an anti-Monarchist, I have obviously been watching a lot of TV coverage so I can moan and pick holes.
Imagine my glee when I noticed that the Northern Soul float sported several runic sigil Black Sun motifs. This is the symbol that was appropriated by Heinrich Himmler and the gnostic divisions of the SS. On a float celebrating the very best in black soul/R&B genres. What the actual fck?!?!
Who the heck would have done that. Obviously Northern Soul fans whole way of life is to celebrate black music. I’ve been to loads of Northern and modern soul nights and never seen Nazi symbols or met a single person who held racist views.

Unfathomable.
I'm guessing simply an error (or lack of awareness) probably.

If it’s Northern soul enthusiasts then they already have their recognised symbols. The “Keep the Faith” clenched fist, the night owl etc.
They’d surely be standing their scratching the heads when they saw the float. Somebody must have built it.
This has pissed me off tbh.
I cannot see that it will have been a mistake from whoever put it on there. How many people would recognise the symbol and what it stands for is a different question. It suggests that at least one person involved in the float knew exactly what they were doing and should be dealt with appropriately. It is a reminder that there are people with offensive views in many different places.
Perhaps BlueBeat could give some more information about where this float has appeared and who we could all complain to so that this is properly investigated and the individual identified and dealt with? (Apologies for my ignorance if it should be obvious from the OP but I can't see it.)

I have a degree in history and spent most of the parts I got to choose on the Nazis. I wouldn't have a clue about this.
One would assume the person who chose to use the symbol would know what they were using, though. It would seem highly plausible that no one else realised and so didn't question it.
Needs reporting in my opinion but the question is, who to?
If you search for "Northern soul vector images" as you might do for a pixelation free large scale motif for a float, this symbol actually appears on the first page of results. The tags feature "northern" & "soul". It's been miscategorised, and appears in search results on various vector websites.
I think this is likely to be a mistake by someone looking for appropriate emblems and not doing their research.

I truly hope this is the answer - very poor research.
If clutching at straws, could assume researchers thought it to be the Twisted Wheel logo from the legendary Manchester club.

Bloody hell you’re right. Quite a few of them. None of the actual Northern soul logos on the Northern soul vector images page.

That would be the logical jump. There's no Black Sun in the few twisted wheel searches I tried, so unless they just assumed it was a notion to it? It's pretty different.
The same handful of designs are prominent under northern soul on even the biggest vector databases:

How does this happen? Is it something to do with the search engine or someone uploading the symbol deliberately misidentified? Is there a way to get someone to put it right?

The uploader enters a series of tags that make their designs easy to find. Some will spam tags that are searched often, or use really broad terms to generate hits on their designs.
See below tags for one of the designs in question: color sphere image white vector object circle illustration set isolated shape sign sun abstract action solar symbol icon fire god religion culture magic ukraine north northern outline mascot soul Azov esoteric occult slavs scandinavians firstfire neophobia
It's just unfortunate that the 'Northern Soul' search returns such a small pool of results that these are prominent.
I think it would need to be flagged on each marketplace, either via an email or a report abuse function (which I couldn't find on Shutterstock).

Would be similar to the council publicist from Birmingham who put a skyline photo of the city on promotional material ... only they'd picked one of the city in Alabama, not the West Midlands.

Nazi symbolism has been a hot topic recently due to being plastered all over pictures of Azov Batallion soldiers, pretty sure even the UN or similar tweeted a picture of one with a black sun before swiftly deleting it.

i was never a mod ( in fact the complete opposite ) but a nazi symbol on a parka instead of the r.a.f symbol would have soon been noticed. i believe someone with no idea a past youth culture decorated that float . then again i could be completely wrong
