Avenir Beggen was 8-1. The highest scoring match I've seen was 6-4 against Crewe, didn't we also score a few own goals that game as well?

Don't remember any own goals but I was at both of those. The Crewe one was crazy. It was a case of who gave away more goals than the other. Such an open game throughout. Avenor Beggen was Matt Richards debut wasn't it (or was that the away match)?

Would love to know if Oldham led at all ... 0-4 would be especially amusing.

Hark now hear the Tranmere sing, the Oldham ran etc, etc. Or Maybe they all wanted to get home to hear the Morecambe and Wise wireless Christmas Special.

Football quiz question on 23:38 - Aug 29 with 995 views | Smithy | Tranmere Rovers 13-4 Oldham Athletic For those who like a little bit of football history... The record for the highest-scoring match in the history of England's Football League (dating back to 1888) goes to the game between Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic on Boxing Day (26th December) in 1935. The Third Division North match was the return fixture between the two sides after they had faced each other the previous day. Table-topping Tranmere travelled to Oldham on Christmas Day where they were defeated 4-1. However, at Prenton Park the result was rather different... Tranmere scored six times within the opening 20 minutes. Three of those goals came courtesy of Robert C. "Bunny" Bell. The forward would later cross the River Mersey to join Everton, although his time at Goodison Park was effectively ended by the outbreak of the Second World War. Bell added to his hat-trick with two more as Oldham remarkably went in at half-time 8-1 down. After the break, Tranmere reached double figures before the visitors got their second, and at 11-4 there were still 20 minutes to play. There was to be no further scoring until the last couple of minutes. No player had ever scored a triple hat-trick in a Football League match before, but Bell was closing in on one. Despite missing a penalty, he managed to find the net twice more in the ankle-deep mud to bring his tally to nine and the final score to 13-4. Incredibly, Bell's record lasted for less than four months. Joe Payne of Luton Town switched from wing-half to play his first senior match as a centre-forward, and he notched 10 in a 12-0 win over Bristol Rovers. Had Bell converted the penalty and reached double figures himself, Tranmere would hold the record as the only club to score 14 in a Football League fixture. Tranmere ultimately failed to gain promotion at the end of the 1935/36 season, finishing four places ahead of Oldham. The goalscorers for the game were as follows: Tranmere - Bell 9, Woodward 2, MacDonald, Urmson Oldham - Walsh 2, Brunskill, Davis The attendance was recorded as 12,000
