I used to like Sunderland but went off them in recent years. Definitely a fan again while Mogga is managing them. Even sweeter for Stoke to be losing at home against Swansea for Neil's first match!
Sunderland have made a terrific appointment, their fans might feel underwhelmed at the moment, but over time they’ll appreciate Mogga and the job he’ll do for them.
Swansea bottled it again. Relegation fodder if ever I saw it. They seem desperate to emulate us under Marcus Evans, but cramming 13 years of decline into about 4 (they’ve got similarly disconnected owners and are taking an austerity approach too).

Why would there fans feel underwhelmed? Mowbray is a top Championship manager, who were they hoping for Guardiola?

Agree that they have. I wonder if it was also in their thinking when allowing Neil to talk to Stoke. I hadn't seen their fans were underwhelmed. Who did they expect to get? Mogga was doing a great job at Blackburn. I would be very surprised if he doesn't get Sunderland in the promotion mix this season. I hope he takes them up and keeps them in the Premier League.

I was listening to talkSPORT and that’s what some of their fans had to say about Tony Mowbray and the fact he’s a Boro’ boy probably doesn’t help matters. Nevertheless, I think they’ll see he’s a very good appointment as the months pass and probably better than Alex Neil in the long term.

I was a great fan of Mogga's both as a player and as a human being. Hope he continues to be successful in his new job.
I watched Keogh's interview from last night and part of me wondered if he is our Mogga signing for this level. Of course he is a different person entirely and clearly had a blot on his character with what happened when he was dismissed from Derby. However, I think he is a clever man, a very good and experienced footballer, and has the potential to be a real asset for us.

I’ve had to watch this again and now there’s something in my eye. Mogga and Stewart at the end there. My word.
Great documentary that - watched it when it first came out
I'm guessing a few of our younger fans may not know this, but the background to Mogga joining us was that he'd lost his wife to breast cancer (she was only 26) at the start of 1995, and left Celtic later that year to join us because he needed to get away and make a fresh start. He credits joining Ipswich with saving his life; massive part of our promotion as a player, and continued that as part of Burley's coaching staff.
He was treated pretty shabbily by Blackburn towards the end of his time there, so glad he's got this chance at a bigger club back in the North East.

I think they’re underwhelmed because they don’t know Mowbray. He looks old, sounds old and appears dour. I’ve discussed this with my mackem mate and Im still not sure who they expected. Not TM though. A lot of them are still fans of Roy Keane and I think his spectre lurks in the background.
I’ve been to the odd Sunderland game with my mate and they’re a good lot. They have a few morons, like any club, but they’re actually more fatalistic than possessing any sense of entitlement.
I’m sure they’ll be pleasantly surprised by Mowbray. I think it’s a really good match.

Suspect a large sum of money was offered, being owned by the founders and owners of bet365 does mean they have a lot of cash!
I suspect you are right. The owners are absolutely loaded. So a load of cash, longer contract, lower expectations at Stoke, I can see why he was tempted.
The Stoke game at Sunderland will be interesting. I suspect the welcome won’t be a warm one.

I still can't work out why Alex Neil would leave Sunderland for Stoke. Mogga must be thanking his lucky stars that Neil made such an odd choice.
Doubled his money and a long term deal.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
