I've only just seen it. That must be the biggest car crash of an interview by a British Prime Minister ever. Truss is so far out of her depth it is shocking.

Nadhim Zahawi: I sacrificed a few minutes of life watching this idiot try and defend the indefensible. It was a triumph of arrogance, conceit, bluff, stupidity and delusion over reality. How he didn’t laugh at himself was a triumph. Everybody was laughing at the pathetic tool.

it's a statement from the tory party of how stupid they think the british people are.
"Here you go - this is the quality of person we'll put forward as your leader."
Cameron > May > Johnson > Truss > .... There's the list of the UK's four worst PMs.
In all fairness, given the voting habits of the British electorate over the past decade or so, you can't blame them for think the country'll accept any amount of old toot as long as it makes the right noise about flag shagging and foreigners.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Yeah.
They wouldn't have given us good old-fashioned traditional tory power cuts, negative equity and massive borrowing costs.
Chaos with Ed Miliband, anyone?
I've said it before and I'll say it again - if Milliband could eat a bacon sandwich properly, we'd probably have a vaguely properly functional health service, still be in the EU and maybe even a modicum of compassion towards people who aren't lucky enough to be rich, straight, white blokes.

Exactly this. The Tories (and the wider Brexiteers) have lied their way through various elections over the past decade or more, delivered austerity, an appalling wealth gap, increasing poverty and so many other terrible things (to many to bore everyone here with), but still the British public vote for them. The next election will be closer than many think because more lies will be peddled, with the backing of our press, and too many gullible people will believe it, again.

I think they’ll be smashed out of sight next election. Funnily enough, no lighting and heating will be the thing that puts the tin lid on them. People old enough still remember that in the 70s. They tend not to remember all the other shortages. The government will try and argue Putin, Covid etc etc but people won’t buy that. This mess, including power cuts, are all of the tories’ making.
I’ve a good idea. How about you build some storage tanks in which you can store surplus gas during the summer for use during the winter? Or, if you have interconnectors with your neighbouring countries, how about you develop good relations with them to make sure you are not last in the queue when the rationing begins. Oh….

She is interviewing for a position with Amazon with her soundbite, isn't she?
"I want to deliver for the people of the UK in the face of the turbulent global crisis."
Apologies - I just spilt some fizzy liquid on my keyboard, ran away from the PC with it to try to dry it out and came back to find I'd reported your admirable post as abuse!
Have sent the appropriate mea culpas to Phil and Gav.

I suspect it will actually be the rising cost of mortgages that will do for them. Although the 'usual rabble' protested (violently in London) against the Poll Tax it was said that it was when the 'matrons of Maidenhead' took to the streets that the mad woman knew the game was up.
Truss et al don't give a fling fck about the poor, the elderly or the vulnerable, other than what their core vote might think. But when that latter group turn on them then it will be time for change. And unlike lights you cannot simply turn on cheaper mortgages. You cannot get repossessed houses back.
And there is enough evidence to show that the energy shortage is not solely down to the Tories - which cannot be said of the rise in mortgage costs. That can be laid at Karsi's door. A suicidal attempt to implement Brexit One that has left a £60-70 billion hole in the finances. Cut services or borrow more, Karsi ?
As to more gas storage, the UK did have enough, until the Tories thought it was something else they could cut.

So you sow, so ye shall reap - though not if you are a farmer (see Braverman/Farmers thread)
I’ve never understood the Tory approach to critical infrastructure. How anyone could justify relying on ‘just in time’ supply is utterly beyond me let alone leaving such things to others when you don’t have to. Before they say how could we predict Putin etc, the issue of energy supply threat was very much raised during Brexit preparations so they knew the risk. Where we are now sits purely with Truss and co.
It’s simple. If it can save money or make money for them personally, sell it off. Scrap it. If it’s critical defence technology, anything, who cares. Money is more important. They’ve been doing it for decades. The channel tunnel: given away by Cameron. The Dartford crossing flogged off to the French for peanuts and they’ve been making huge profits every year since with queues every day for miles each side. Do foreign drivers have to pay? Nope. Easier to ramp up prices for the mugs here.
There is also a move to build another crossing. Just think, had the Dartford crossing been retained, £millions in profits could have gone to building the new one. Instead it went and goes to French shareholders and the new crossing here won’t be built for years if at all. Do the tories care? Not in the least. Jam today.
