How can the keeper be still on the pitch after being unconscious 20:58 - Oct 25 with 1888 views | nodge_blue | Eadt says he was knocked out but they had no substitute keeper. Surely that has to be wrong.

How can the keeper be still on the pitch after being unconscious on 21:14 - Oct 25 with 1802 views | ArnoldMoorhen | Completely against the rules, if true. A breach of duty of care by the club doctor, if true. I'm guessing that he wasn't, and that the doctor who was with him had a better view of it than a journalist from the Press Box.

Completely motionless for a good while, Burns obviously concerned immediately and he was right there. Rules state he has to go off even if a loss of conscious is suspected and the medical team can't know for sure that he wasn't. Seems pretty clear to me. Hopefully Port Vale just get a warning about it, but I don't know what the FA can do if it's in the ref's report.

Concussion subs must also become the norm in football.
How can the keeper be still on the pitch after being unconscious on 10:00 - Oct 26 with 1587 views | Mullet | It didn't look good at all, but I maybe was assuming he was ok because they seemed happy for him to play on. Looked fine after but that definitely isn't an indicator. He was very brave as he made more than one save to feet like that last night.

How can the keeper be still on the pitch after being unconscious on 10:02 - Oct 26 with 1580 views | Darth_Koont | Was he unconscious? Normally players around show a lot more urgency if he’s non-responsive. Looked to me like he got smacked in the face by the ball and was dealing with the pain. Hence Burns comes over to him but doesn’t hang around or look that concerned.

Your first two sentences are the official position, and the Club Doctor would be under an absolute requirement to follow those rules, so speculation that they didn't could be considered defamatory, and damaging to their professional reputation. That doesn't mean that they did follow the rules, but somebody would have to be on very sure ground to state that they didn't categorically.

Burns very clearly knees him in the head hence his concern. He even points to his knee as the ref comes over. There weren’t any other players that close to see which is why Burns was the first to call the ref and physios over. Keeper should have gone off.

They didn't have a keeper on the bench, which wrongly or rightly, probably contributed to the decision. I'm not sure he was unconscious though.

How can the keeper be still on the pitch after being unconscious on 16:41 - Oct 26 with 1137 views | ScotBlue | As a Rugby first responder at a local high level Rugby club up here in Scotland a reminder that you do not have to be unconscious to suffer concussion. In rugby if concussion is suspected then you have to be removed from the game immediately. If you have a doctor with the correct qualifications that can perform a HIA [Head Injury Assessment] and the player passes this he can rejoin. Most clubs do not have a doctor with this so have to sit the player out although I would expect a professional football club to have one. I was not there last night but from what has been reported concussion must have been suspected and there should have been an HIA. Port Vale have 7 substitute places and it was their fault for not including a keeper. I remember back in the 80's when there were only 1 or 2 subs and often an outfield player used to have to go in goal if the keeper got injured. I think this should have happened last night.

Fully agree. Surprised that this isn't already a rule which is in place to be honest.
