He did NOT take kindly to being substituted last night. McKenna tried to speak to him and Fridge blanked him, then he snatched a coat out of another coach's hand and stormed off.

Wasn’t it due to a head knock? The Vale commentary said he made a gesture about his vision.

Players get annoyed all the time in rugby when they’re subbed for a head knock or just have to go off for 10 minutes for the mandatory head impact assesssment. Because otherwise they feel fine and think they can continue.

But it’s not theirs or even the manager’s call. It’s the physio and/or doctor who takes that decision on pure medical grounds.

Probably because it's a non issue. You see this every game on tv. No one likes to be subbed. If you watch substitutions the player coming off never embraces the one coming on with the same level of enthusiasm that the player coming on does.

Truly impaired.

I'd be more worried if he wasn't disappointed to be taken off. A complete non issue.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Good players want to play. If a player likes being subbed you have to ask if they should be there in the first place.

If he’s irritated about it, he’ll get over it. It’s a non issue for me.

Shows he cares. No one should like getting subbed. He’ll be fine.

If it was that, I can understand his annoyance given that he'd have been forced to leave the field of play, whilst Vale's goalkeeper has been allowed to carry on despite being knocked unconscious.

I’m not sure the keeper was knocked unconscious at all. It was a ball to the face plus no-one reacted as if the keeper was non-responsive or in and out of consciousness.

I think it was a proper stinger to the face that the keeper just needed time to deal with.

Could not tell from TV coverage if he was unconscious or not, but Burns was immediately concerned and was gesturing to the bench that he needed medical help.

My immediate thoughts were same as the OP. Didn't think he looked happy tbf. And I was over thinking, perhaps, that he didn't have his best game in a Town shirt, and thought , not being given the arm band ahead of JD could have dented his confidence a bit.
Having read through the other comments on the thread. It's probably just nothing. Let's hope he's not carrying a weird injury.
End of the day, he's a defender, they've conceded two goals in the game. So if he has got the hump, it's probably just because of that.

If that is the case, it would show we take seriously our duty of care to our players.

Last season he was excellent until the injury but although he has been pretty good not quite hit that form as yet . Of course he is a right footed player playing on the left now last season it wasn't a problem but might be this . Burgess getting back to fitness adds pressure on him of course as he is a natural lefty . His reaction is likely to be towards himself because he can do better and he knows that .

Being substituted as a defender other than for injury is an insult, so if that is the case, I can understand his anger. As it is, I thought he and the rest of the defence did well last night, so I wouldn't have taken him off other than for injury. The two goals came from high balls into the box, but there is always a risk of conceding with such balls. And for those saying Woolfy was at fault because he was responsible for the corner which led to the goal, that seems to me to be stretching blame too far.
