Some of you may remember the saga I had with my neighbour’s cat, and my love for him. If not, in short:
I moved into a flat 4 years ago The neighbour's cat adopted me He spent about 7 hours at mine every day His owners knew and were lovely about it I was upset about leaving him as I'm moving out I was worried he would be sad I asked to adopt him, they said no
Well, unfortunately the little man was knocked over by a car a few weeks ago and didn't make it. I found him and had to bring him to his home.
I wrote a song about him, as I found the death incredibly hard for many reasons.
It's here if you would like to listen - thank you if you do:
i've got these pictures of you buried in my head. i had planned to keep them locked inside a friend. but isn't it a shame that i can view them now you're dead? as if you dying made it easier to live.
as i'm holding your body, do you know that i'm here? your heart is in mine, but your teeth won't bite.
i've got these visions of you f**king with my sh*t. like you were somehow proud to have a say in it. now everything around this room is vaguely tarnishing, and every light that i turn on is darkening.
i'm sorry that i held you tight. i thought that i should try to get you used to hating me when i leave you outside.

That’s an incredibly sad song mate. Having lived the majority of my life never wishing to own or interact with a pet, it’s only since we got our dog this year that I appreciate what an incredible bond we can build with animals.

Lovely song. I know what you're going through, it's really hard at first. Our 2 year old cat was killed by a car earlier this year and I was surprised how hard it hit me and my wife (way more than my kids who I'd worried about telling). It's hard to put in words but they become such a part of your life and it feels empty for a while when they're gone. It does get easier and I would recommend getting cats of your own when you're able. We got 2 kittens a couple of months ago and although we still miss Rosco, it's wonderful having cat company again.

As a paid up member of the cat owners union I know how you feel.
Given how full so many rescue centres are I would encourage anyone who can to go and adopt a cat. They are awesome creatures, they make a huge difference to one's mental well being, provide companionship and much entertainment. There are so many cats (and indeed dogs) who need a good home so if you can offer one please loom at getting a rescue.
Cats are great and you are too for befriending the neighbour’s cat. Hopefully Moggy is up there in heaven chomping on some whiskas and listening to your song

Which I don't disagree with as a good thing to do if you are able but as with the case here the fear is theyll be hit by a car, especially the speed and without abandon some drive along residential roads thesedays, and its unfair imo to keep a cat housebound.
It was distressing enough dealing with this kind of thing when a neighbours cat also got hit by a car, but had managed to get to my back garden before it died from its injuries, and it wasn't even my pet or I'd formed any kind of kind of bond with it, it just used to sit in my garden and I used to just let it get on with it.

Here in The Algarve we and others feed the street cats most are wild and you can't get near them but around 18 months ago a ginger cat that had lost one eye arrived and after a few weeks I was able to get close to him and gradually I was able to stroke him and he now comes running when called and we can pick him up, we would love to have him in the apartment but we are on the top floor so it's not possible.ðŸˆ

I was never a cat person, until I adopted a stray when married, she wormed her way into my heart and I liked her a lot, we then ended up with a feral kitten that had been captured, this one was like my shadow when I was at home, rarely more than six inches away from me within an hour or two of me being home. She died 10 years ago in August, and I still think of her on a regular basis. Cats are amazing animals if you choose to let one in, you'll never be more than their servant, but you'll appreciate the fact you are.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
