The kidz don't use facebook anymore on the whole and they aren't being replaced as they get older as there are many many more options out there,although whatsApp is huge in South America used for years in a way not used that i'd seen before..businesses and schools etc,etc as well as communication,not sure if it's the same way over in the Northern hemisphere. |  |

The paradox with social media is the more you connect with people the less likely you are to share and post stuff. If you’re just connected to your mates the banter will flow. When your work colleagues, boss, mother in law, etc are your connections you’re less likely to share as freely.

I very occasionally venture onto Facebook these days, and when I do I'm met with my Mother replying to random memes about "First band you saw live" "Weight of your firstborn child" and other social engineering tools that wipe out elderly peoples bank accounts without them realising.
So basically, I spend my time trying to educate my mother and older relatives that they are being unwittingly hacked by people using emotive memes.

Our kids' clubs have moved away from WhatsApp for safeguarding issues, as there are better and more secure platforms out there now. I don't know if drop in usage is a factor here, but Meta don't seem to have progressed their products much, so I wouldn't be surprised. Although advertising trends are likely to be more important maybe? |  |
