A lot of the country's output flows through that establishment and it's of concern to all of us if starts to fall behind.

Its status has been protected over the years from competitors because of its integral position to the world's markets and, whether some among us like it or not, we all rely on its existence as a major performer and the respect it commands.

"It marks a huge reversal of fortunes for the London Stock Exchange, which was worth about $1.4 trillion more than its Parisian rival back in 2016."

That's pretty impressive work in just 6 years. Special praise to Nigel, Arron, Boris and Liz.

Edit: Nearly forgot David and Theresa. They were the supposed grown-ups but as individuals the most responsible for Brexit and a Hard Brexit too. All to keep their crappy party together long enough to unleash its next attack on the British public.

"Brexit is the ultimate reason why the UK now faces a fresh round of austerity, a former interest rate-setter at the Bank of England has said.

“The UK economy as a whole has been permanently damaged by Brexit,” Michael Saunders, who was an external member of the central bank’s monetary policy committee, said in an interview with Bloomberg TV.

“It’s reduced the economy’s potential output significantly, eroded business investment,” he said, adding: “If we hadn’t had Brexit, we probably wouldn’t be talking about an austerity budget this week.”

Yet a only few days ago one of these cap doffers was bleating on here how none of that was true. Supposedly after reading some obscure website that told him all us globalists, or is it us wealthy metropolitan elites were controlling the ..... err rightwing media and putting out fake news, and only those who knew that the world is controlled by seven foot high lizards who introduced covid to wipe out most of the population (hows that going now ?)...................

You may scoff, but Johnny Speight who wrote Alf Garnett said much of the outrageously ignorant stuff spoke by AG was stuff he had heard when sat in pubs near the docks. ie not made up.

It is a mystery why these folk are unable/unwilling to think for themselves and will willing regurgitate what their 'betters' tell them to say.

Isn't paying the police a regular sum of money in order to avoid your legal duty usually considered bribery?

Paying the French to control our borders.

Spaffing.

I understand that £1m a week out-bribes the people smugglers bribes to the French police.

I doubt it. The French will happily take both and then do whatever is in their own best interests anyway. Usually how it works.

The £61 million to reduce those crossing? Mais oui, but you did not factor in the increased numbers we have so we have reduced the increase instead.

Looks like Johnsons 'cones hotline' style inept guff has been dumped

"Plans to force UK firms to put their goods through expensive new tests before they can go on sale have been shelved, in another Brexit U-turn.

The new “UKCA” quality mark was due to replace the EU’s “CE” badge from 1 January — as a symbol of Britain having the left the bloc — but ministers now accept it would be a “burden for business”.

Businesses had protested that the tests would represent pointless and costly red tape where goods have already been approved by the EU as meeting the standard required.

As I have said. It will not be by some nonsense referendim but via the needs of industry and trade - as yet another brexit idiocy is removed.

So what next Harry, I hear you ask. Well, keep an eye on free movement as visa requirements are further relaxed.

It will be a slow return to normality, but return we will.

The dark clouds of brexit will be lifted, the inward looking, isolationist country will once again be open and free. Free from the claustrophobic yoke of brexit tyranny. Brexiteers will either be dead or jailed (the Quisling leaders) and the majority will once again embrace our neighbours.

Perhaps there will be scenes as below, when the country was plunged into it's darkest days. Only to fight back and rid themselves of tyranny.

The burden being borne by the chemical industry has gone ahead.
All chemicals were registered with the EU in compliance with EU law.
The Brexit dividend demanded that we have our own database of registered chemicals at an industry cost of £2billion.
I'm sure if we had negotiated, the EU would have sold us the UK registry for a knock-down price. They would not have charged us £2billion if we'd shown ourselves to be cooperative rather than the Davis/Frost approach of petty point scoring.

The point is the government certainly knew this would be the outcome once they understood what the single market and customs union was in 2018 at the latest and in four years they’ve shoved their heads in the sand. Why? Because they have personally done very nicely out of it and don’t care.

Austerity? It didn’t do anything but harm 12 years ago so why do they think more of the same will do anything but the same? They don’t because this is all about their weird ideology and filling their own boots. The plebs? Get a second job. Work a bit harder.

Rubbish deals with the Australians, the French over channel migration, watching the City’s business dribble away? Who cares, not their problem.

Brexit is the root cause of the irreversible immense damage done to this country and the catastrophic effects are only just beginning.
