McKenna has to take the hit for this one. 16:46 - Jan 21 with 4356 viewsDublinBlue84

Ref had called the captains over and they were all heading for the touchline to rightly call the match off.

Then it seemed there was a determination to keep them on which was iridicolous.

All it was going to take a shot on goal, and you'd have a chance of scoring with visibility so poor.

Abysmal.

Of course he wanted to keep them on. It was 1-1 with 15 mins to go plus injury time.

Truly impaired.

Yeah I don’t think you can blame him for that. He’s tried to win the game.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

We've got to start questioning his methods now.

Yes it's pretty in between both boxes but we've shown for his entire tenure that, with the odd exception where we're playing no hopers, we're poor in both boxes which is exactly where it counts.

He doesn't show any inkling of being able to sort it out either.

It could have, but if you've been watching the game, the odds of it going our way were low, and we'd be faar better off with a replay under better conditions as we were playing woeful.

The smart move, would have been to call it off but seems the management of both teams tried to force it to carry on, the skippers put up no fight at all for it to carry on.

I didn't see much of the players putting up a fight to stay on, only managers.

But we're the better team, you therefore want to play the game with as few variables out of your control as possible. If this was stopped and replayed/restarted on a clear day in good conditions, who would you feel more likely to win the game?

Our commentator on iFollow said something like ‘surely Ipswich will want to see this one out’. Eh? Playing like crap in effectively a must win (they all are now). I’d happily have gone off and tried again another day.

Indeed, I wasn’t watching it. If Robinson fancied that the match should continue due to their performance then perhaps a question for KM to answer. I’m in no position to comment further.

I'd argue we played so poorly it would have been more clever to get it called off and come back a bit more up for it than we appeared to be.

I don't know how you can possibly tell McKenna wanted it on and the players had had enough. Utter nonsense.

Quite.

At 1-1 in thick fog, all it needed was a flukey shot - a daft gamble to take, much more of a wild bet for us than them.

Probably because the ref went to ask on a few occasions and the game continued? I think that's fairly conclusive ...

I don't blame him for keeping the players on the pitch.. We could do without another away trip in a rearranged fixture.. Different if we were at home, imo..
Frustrating day.. We had the chances to get in front, but never took them. And 2 more soft goals conceded to boot.
Single Malt time...

And as McKenna has just confirmed on the radio, him and the Oxford manager both expressed concerns at the start of the second half, and then both agreed it should be called off but the players said they were OK.

I am amazed the ref didn’t make the final decision to call it off.

If we, the fans, couldn’t see anything then the linesmen couldn’t either.

McKenna: Me and Karl Were Both Happy to Abandon and Play the Game Another Day 21st Jan 2023 18:32
Blues boss Kieran McKenna felt Town’s 2-1 defeat at Oxford United should have been abandoned in the second half due to thick fog which made it hard for the players to see the ball, revealing he and his U’s counterpart Karl Robinson were in agreement but that referee Bobby Madden erroneously told them that the result at that point would have stood had that been the case. 52

Lot of people in this thread owing apologies but surprise surprise they've all disappeared.

Funny how so-called supporters immediately look to blame the manager, and act as if they know it as fact as well.
