What do we need to get promoted next season.

We've got core that could take us to the next level but what do you think we need to really give it a go?

To realise that building for the Championship isn't a great idea if you're not going to get to the Championship.

We need 2-3 old pros who have experience getting out of this league and aren't afraid to take man and ball.

A plan B as well. In the time we knock it around the back line we could put it in their box another 10 times.

Truly impaired.

A couple of decent wingers would be nice. Burns just isn't at it this season.
And another Morsy.
And a striker that actually scores goals.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Think further to J2s post. I'd be straight in for jch.

I know he isn't one for future.. but he knows league 1.

Jch and ladapo would be enough for this level.

As much as this will get down voted (and at this stage i disagree with you) if we fail to get promotion, every other manager would be relieved of their services.

Based on current performances the answer has to be play better next season.

Our recent league performances aren't good enough to make the play offs.

We are currently in 4th place, 8 pts off automatic and more important only 7pts from dropping out of a play off spot with the teams currently 5th, 6th & 7th all having games in hand.

If Guthrum did used his formula for calculating final league position suspect we would be 8th or 9th.

Do you think we can improve the ability of the players we have to handle pressure and make better decisions? We do need to improve on that and maybe an experienced leader-type would help. We need to improve our attacking tactics too. We do not surprise oppositions enough currently (much as we have improved that from set plays and were surprising them earlier in the season). For all our possession and xG, how many saves are opposition keepers making aside from comfortable ones?

We need to become ruthless in front of the onion bag. I applauded the signing of players like Broadhead because he did it with Sunderland, but we need a more expansive midfield and a defence that holds its nerve and doesn't concede stupid goals so much.

For me, George Hirst isn't the sort of striker we needed. I'd have also gone all in on Mehmeti from Wycombe. We need a bit of flair. I'd have built a team around Davis, Chappers, Broadhead and Morsy. We've signed too many options who, for whatever reason, aren't capable of consistency.

I also think there's a bit of a theme around tactical naivety, particularly against the lesser sides in the division. It's all well and good being able to pass it nicely. But you need a bit of steel to back it up. These players don't have steel. They're too busy thinking they're too good for most teams.

Quite a few players (Morsy included) won’t stay if we don’t get promotion this season.

Throwing money at players hasn’t worked so let’s develop the young talent we have in the club and out on loan.

Good, because they obviously aren’t good enough if we don’t go up.

We'll obviously need a better striker as the championship is harder than L1, but if we do I can see us winning promotion to the Prem next season.

Admittedly I haven't seen too many games (90 minutes' worth anyway) this season, but I would say we don't play nearly enough 'risky' passes in the final third. All far too safe and focused on ball retention rather than playing a pass that may well not reach its target but at least gets the opposition turning and running backwards, with a small chance of splitting their defence or getting a wide player in down the channel. We allow the opposition far too much time to get back into their defensive shapes when we win possession.

I can't see Morsy going anywhere. If he was consistently doing enough to interest clubs capable of buying him, we would be going up. Currently his value is dropping below what we would be asking.

Agreed on Hirst, for me we needed a poacher that pops up with a scrappy winner in a tight game but is used sparingly. Clearly we should have signed a couple of decent CBs who can actually defend too. Having said all that, i think the squad size is too big and having an adverse effect.

Im not a lover of 442 at all but in some games we clearly need to go with 2 up top to offer much more of a threat than playing nice football 40-50 yards from goal and being ineffective. How many winners have we scored in the last 10 minutes of games? I cant think of any to be honest and that just highlights the persistence of plan A that has been unsuccessful for 80 minutes.

We need some players willing to battle , rather than pussyfoot around with tippy tappy football that takes ages to get us into attacking positions .

Teams have sussed us out
