Do have some sympathy for Potter. Yes, Chelsea should be doing better, but the signings were scattergun.
Albeit two levels below, but when you compare them to our approach with the targeted arrivals of Clarke, Luongo, Broadhead and Hirst - filling gaps or depth - then it made no sense whatsoever. They needed experience and a striker. They brought in neither. [Post edited 2 Apr 2023 20:34]

He always looked a bit out of his depth. Clearly a better start there with a few more wins on the board, might have won over the dressing room and got them going..But he'd probably gone past the point of no return, in terms of installing belief and confidence in whatever it was that he was trying to do.....

On their forum somebody posted that an elite club needs an elite manager. The general view was that Potter was way out of his depth and had to go.
They may be right, but their arrogance and sense of entitlement is eye watering. Awful club. I can recall going there at the end of the season in the late 70s when the ground was broken bricks, rubbish, barbed wire, running track and decay. The crowd was 15k (we won 3-2). In the 86 the crowd was 13k (1-1).

They were 2nd division when I was a kid. Certainly not elite. I guess they'll have a younger generation of supporters feeling very entitled having been brought up through the Abramovich era....
