I've done a U-turn on the pitch invasion debate. I still think it is a shame it is being discouraged. It is part of football history. It was great against Bolton. People in the stands (like my grandparents) enjoyed the "scenes" as us kids enjoyed the celebrations.
But the argument around needlessly costing the club potentially £100Ks for what 30 mins to an hour on the pitch isn't worth it. With the money and drive to put the club back on course to the top flight, we can respect and adhere to the requests. I think we can forgo it and still enjoy ourselves.
The reason I'm putting this up here is because people often just see TWTD as people arguing, rather than listening to others and changing their positions.

Well done for listening and changing your mind. I can see both sides of the argument but let's not forget that fans going on the pitch led to fencing and policing that contributed to events like Hillsborough. The reason for strong measures against fans going on the pitch is sound.
If the club finds a way to controllably allow fans onto the pitch once the players have left it, that would be great. However, any fan deliberately entering the field of play without permission is likely to find themselves in some trouble and, if lots do it, cost the club. I would expect a lot heavier stewarding and policing than normal on Saturday.

Piell be on the pitch, unless Ashton, Gamechanger or Mckenna says othewise. Rightly or wrongly fans will not listen to a statement from a " safety officer .
At this emotional time of year, the EFL quite rightly want to discourage over-excited fans from going on the pitch during games. As do the club, although that won't happen at Portman Road anyway. They're not going to fine clubs whose fans go on the pitch to celebrate at full time.
People can bleet all they like on the internet, here's what's going to happen tomorrow - we'll beat Exeter and secure promotion, then a few thousand of us will go on the pitch. After a bit of celebration, the club will issue an announcement over the PA asking fans to leave the pitch so the players can do a lap of honour. We'll all come off the pitch again, some will take a bit longer than others and get boo'ed a bit first, but ultimately all will be well and we'll all applaud the lap of honour. This team have earned it more than any other over the last 23 years. Nothing more will be said about it and there will be zero repercussions. I can't wait!

Until some div does something unnecessary to an Exeter player and then suddenly the whole picture is different.
Let's not forget the players will still want to go for 100 points, 100 goals and the title so we really don't want to injure one of our own.
I can't be there but my own personal stance is stay off the pitch. The club have asked fans to to avoid any possible penalty or risk of bans. Being able to look and hear the fans in the stands is more impressive personally and probably more appreciated by the players.

When has a Ipswich player ever been injured by his own fans celebrating?!

I never said they had. But if hundreds of fans are all trying to get to the players to hug, pat, get a selfie is it inconceivable that someone might jump on a player?
None of it is a risk if fans do as the club is asking.
I was initially dismayed to see another thread on this, but having read your post, I also changed /that/ stance :)
Most of us are bad at changing our minds, and even worse at saying that we have! Nice to see.
I agree with your latest position, and I would implore everyone to listen to the Club's pronouncement that fans are not welcome on the pitch. There is scope for legitimate disagreement on this issue of course, but where people disagree, I would far rather read "It's crazy that this is a criminal offence" rather than "Yeah I know it's a criminal offence, but who's up for it anyway, lads?"
Whilst it is true that the police cannot arrest thousands, you never know who might get caught and who might not, and it could easily be 'good natured' people who were encouraged to go on the pitch by posts on this forum rather than a member of a tiny tiny minority who might be causing trouble. I would similarly discourage the use of pyrotechnics, which together with a pitch invasion would be more than unfortunate.
I do totally understand the pent up frustration and the need to celebrate. I hope everyone just has the best time. We're nearly there, lads and lasses...
