Official warning letters have been sent to anti-monarchists planning peaceful protests at King Charles III’s coronation saying that new criminal offences to prevent disruption have been rushed into law.
Using tactics described by lawyers as “intimidatory”, the Home Office’s Police Powers Unit wrote to the campaign group Republic saying new powers had been brought forward to prevent “disruption at major sporting and cultural events”.
The new law, given royal assent by Charles on Tuesday, means that from Wednesday:
Protesters who block roads, airports and railways could face 12 months behind bars.
Anyone locking on to others, objects or buildings could go to prison for six months and face an unlimited fine.
Police will be able to head off disruption by stopping and searching protesters if they suspect they are setting out to cause chaos.
“I would be grateful if you could publicise and forward this letter to your members who are likely to be affected by these legislative changes,” says the Home Office letter, which lists the creation of a number of new criminal offences under the government’s much criticised public order bill.

The thing was that she was awarded extra above the so called maximum and we didn't know we had applied for it. Still don't know if it is a bigger loan or part loan part grant. (11+k rather than 9+k) | |

The one we were thinking of is a ‘top up’ to the accommodation grant, normally £4.5k but can get up to £9k, but I think you have to prove a household income reduction of 15% causing your claim so we’ll just claim the usual. | | | |

I see Tugendhat is getting some plaudits for reluctantly admitting that the people being trafficked across the channel aren't acting illegally. Being forced into admitting the truth about asylum seekers shouldn't be news, but this certainly should be. It's as sinister a fook. |  |

He is meant to be a One Nation Tory but, in his desperation to further his political career, I have never seen him put his head above the parapet on anything that a true One Nation Tory should.
By way of example, despite being a Remainer, he did not once join any of the cross-party pro-Remain activities in his constituency because he was terrified of offending the Brexiteers in his local party.
As regards his most recent admission, it sounds like it only came about because he was too dim to cope with Kay Burley.
