Collin Quaner scores this hilarious last minute winner. Points to take from this:

- That was our fifth win of the season, now we win 5 in just 14 days.
- That was the second time we scored 3 in a game, this season we've managed that 20 times.
- Attendance was 20,895, that was considered a bumper crowd at the time but now we haven't had any as low as that in the league this season.

Someone told me that we were paying him £20,000 a week. Surely not?!

The fact we finished below a team that was in absolute shambles and hadn’t paid their players for months shows just how unacceptable our squad was that season. It takes impressive effort to be worse than players who are literally not being paid

Im not sure they were frauds as such.

They just weren't anywhere good enough. The culture wasn't great granted but that was an exceptionally poor side.

That was a massive mistake no doubt about it.

Lambert was the end for me, that's when i knew 100% that we were going nowhere under Evans. or should i put it we would have ended up in league 2 under his ownership, im convinced of that. It was a bad appointment and i called it at the time, he'd done nothing in the game since Norwich.

What a shambles in particular the last 4 years of Evans' reign were and some were still defending him as well which i can't get my head around.

Just the 13 points from safety. 5 wins from 46 ffs. As Norwich romped to the title. “Don’t worry, bout a thing…”. Jesus Christ.

Lambert got free reign to relegate us in the most pathetic fashion.

That manager, that team, that owner. Spineless losers.

But the scum are mocking our glory attendances now. There’s no way on this earth they would pull in 20k in their 17th consecutive season in the championship. Especially if they were already down.

I appreciate that the tone of this thread is “look how far we have come since that game” and I 100% agree with that.

But, taken in isolation, that was one of the more entertaining games of that “era”. Leeds were a pretty good side (albeit maybe saving themselves for the playoffs), and we were not terrible value for that win, despite going down to ten.

Why the unnecessary dig? Looking at the big picture when we were drawing games this season was perfectly valid. It’s notable that despite the draws we dominated games and lost only four.

There was no big picture when we were relegated. None. Relegated with no fight whatsoever. Woeful. I wasn’t at the Leeds game but if the supporters chose to applaud the manager and players that was up to them. Perhaps they were applauding a spirited performance along with a hope that it wouldn’t get any worse. Hope was just about all that was left four years ago.

For me, that season was the worst in my whole time of following ITFC. The following seasons’ promise then shambles? I had sort have accepted the only way was down while Evans stayed. Lambert? I was in two minds. I thought him useless but in the chaos he offered a bizarre sort of stability. No he didn’t - as it turned out he only offered wind and videos. Five year contract? As Mick would say, ‘bonkers’.

I’m overjoyed that we are recovering, but I’ll not forget the numbing horror of that season. The Leeds game? I was happy we won but it changed nothing for me.

You can slightly ever so slightly understand why. He took on a league 1 side after a league 2 manager fked it up.

What was shocking however was giving a 5 year deal

He did cost us something like that. Some of the numbers being thrown around that January for average players was a joke. Whomever had wickham at the time (Palace?) wanted 38k a week and from memory a couple of million quid.

Whilst no-one expected him to keep him up, it would have been nice to see him putting as much effort into instilling some shape, desire, structure and fight into the team rather than coasting to relegation and fuelling the whole 'this season is a free hit' mentality.

The fact that so many fell for him is a factor in WHY he got that ludicrous contract.

Until it was discussed after he was actually sacked. I hadn't even realised how bad that championship season was. It was bad enough for us to go down.. but I'd always thought lambert wasn't given much time.. then realised he had something like 31 games where he won 4. Excellent work. Lol.

It was horrific. I remember hearing the five year contract news and being totally baffled. That decision by Evans was the action of a madman.
