Joe. Armin release 12:21 - May 23 with 4020 viewsFrimleyBlue

You know the youth set up. Is this a shock?

He's been mentioned for a while.. and he's the name that pops out on the let go list.

a niche perspective

Think it was probably on the cards from the moment he was sent back from Braintree Town...

He's been on trial at Brentford and West Brom, so I'd imagine he'll get a club at the same sort of level as us. Has been known a while he's being released.

I think he also went to Bournemouth.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

He did - but to answer OP it is one I was a bit surprised about when heard recently.

He's always goof, but is always the one who has to make way from his preferred role to allow a trialist to play and he is consistenly very good wherever he does plays.

Feels from outside as a player who has been let down a bit, never allowed to nail a position down and be given a fair run in it and think he'll get a decent club elsewhere

I hadn't heard that one, but similar sized club. They'll take a chance on players like him they can add to their development squad. I'll add AFCB to the story.

I’m surprised we are letting Matt Healey go , tidy player IMO.

Same here, would have thought very little risk in keeping him an trying to loan him out to a league 1 club next season

I'm not. It seems like part of the process is to now bring in players in to our academy who may bring in some kind of resale value or potential to hit the first team.

It is horrible to admit this, but our academy has been slim pickings for quite a long time now, and anyone close to getting a first team game is often discovered to be lacking.

From what I gather, he was viewed as a player who fitted into the style football-wise but probably wasn't going to be quite good enough.

I think the academy has actually done pretty well in recent seasons with the likes of Downes, Gibbs, Simpson and Dozzell moving on for money to higher divisions and players like like Calum Logan getting poached at an early age, again bringing in money. Chirewa will bring in a bit more cash this summer, Idris too I would expect.

Perhaps not many in our first team, which is perhaps inevitable with the aim to get out of League One as fast as possible and lots of senior signings made, but Woolfy is now a fixture and Humphreys is a regular squad member, and Baggott and Ndaba are others who might be in with a shout of involvement next season.

Maybe that is part of the bigger picture then. Im probably still high on the hope we will produce breakthrough stars for ourselves I suppose

I think that's the way it's looked at these days rather than purely as a way of supplying the first-team manager with players, particularly when realistically you're going to lose some players, the Logans, Knights etc, to big Premier League clubs if they show interest.

Obviously, the situation of being in League One didn't help us get the best out of - or the best fees - for some of those and the Gibbs situation was a bit of a mess, in part due to the takeover happening as his contract was coming to an end.

You look at when different players became ready to be first teamers, we're going on for one a year really.

2018-19 Flynn Downes
2019-20 Luke Woolfenden
2020-21 Andre Dozzell
2021-22 (Liam Gibbs)
2022-23 Cameron Humphreys

Issue is that Swansea and Norwich reap the major profit from 2 of those and one of them might struggle to find a pathway into our first team for the moment.

Downes and Wolfenden were solid for sure. Gibbs barely registers. Dozzell was relatively fleeting to as far as the number of first team appearances but just about qualifies - didn't realise he made 81 senior appearances, it feels like half that. Time will tell with Cam
