The latter is not in a strong enough position to face down the rebels (even if a tradition for doing that existed within the Tories). Unlike Starmer who could at least use electoral failure under Corbyn to lever out that faction. Of course that's true, but my concern is that if we/the media makes an issue out of every transgression, however minor (and this is minor in the scheme of things), then it becomes easier for the government to brush them all off and dismiss it as a 'witch hunt' or whatever other phrase they pick.
I guess my point is, pick the battles that are worth fighting.
This government is rotten to the core, and I can't wait for them to be gone, but we should be making more noise about the state of the economy, for example, rather than distractions like this. |  |

Surely that's an issue with how we've changed our perception on politics. There is no way people like Trump and Boris would have been as bullet proof in before the 2000's - The media, as venomous as it is, absolutely has a duty to highlight all of this stuff.

The right-wing of the Tory Party seems to live and breathe in a very small bubble where no outside thought is sought or listened to. They seem to be getting far too insular to appeal to a wider audience whilst believing their hype within ‘The Daily Mail’ and other newspapers.

This incident - not the speeding, the attempts to use civil servants to secure special arrangements - speaks to her integrity. Lots of people well versed in this kind of thing say that it represents a breach of the ministerial code, which she has previously been found to have breached and has to resign as a result. If your opinion is that you don't think that's a big deal then I'm afraid I can't respect your opinion on this. | |
