Scarlett yes but be difficult to keep 3 number 9s happy unless Scarlett can play across the front 3 too. I think Hutch has been signed as that versatile player tbh. Would expect Jackson to move on perhaps opening up a spot down the right. A lot of options if everyones fit already isn’t there.
Central defender is the big weakness in the squad and a must… anyone else coming in will be dependent on availability/big upgrade. No point in signing someone to squad fill we have those in Edwards, Harness and Jackson. [Post edited 21 Jul 2023 21:05]

I would be very pissed off if we swapped Ladapo for Bishop.
Bishop is overrated IMO and is well below who we should be targeting.
You question if Ladapo can do it in the Championship but did well for Rotherham in over 40 appearances. Bishop has never played in the Championship and before last season his goal tally in league one was incredibly average.
Ladapo is much better, has improved a lot under McKenna and will be playing in what should be a much better side than Rotherham. |  |

As you know I'm a freddie fan. However for Rotherham he was in a two man front line.
His goal per minute ratio was great for town and there's lots I like about him hence why I wanted him with us in the first place.
However something for me he doesn't do well is the speed in which he moves to the ball or with the ball. He likes the ball to come to him rather than coming on to the ball, and alot of times when he has got it he takes to long to decide what to do with it and loses the ball.
Colbys got 4 years on Freddie and imo is sharper on and off the ball.
But... that's not a priority in anyway. But something I think would work well. | |

But in another post you said that you don’t take much interest in pre season games.
Can’t remember the exact words but each statement was very much along those lines.

Edit: He’s 24 y/o. Needs a home so my guess would be a permanent. If Arsenal are not going to use him at 24 they may well be looking to move him on now.

I don't care about results in friendlies no.
That doesn't mean you're not able to watch them and discuss things about individual performances. Esp when you're looking at something specific about a certain individual.
I've been complimentary regarding town individual performances too. So there is a Balance. | |

Dael Fry CB from Middlesboro , ball playing , 24 right age right style of play , wouldn’t be cheap , but championship experience and ability , maybe a touch unrealistic as they’ll be contenders too , but I wouldn’t say impossible .
Joel Piroe , Proven Championship Striker from Swansea , seems to want a move away , Leeds seemingly interested , maybe too expensive , but I don’t think unrealistic as an option . 24 again , plenty of growth possible.
Tom Holmes - Reading 23 , over a hundred games in championship , seems to have right attributes , could be a deal to make to step back up to championship level , young experience , room for growth, I think would fit the system and KMc could get something from him . | | | |

Sorry to say that I think your first two are impossible. Swansea wanted £20m for Piroe last summer, will be cheaper now but I think at least £5m more expensive than the max we could pay within FFP. Fry signed a new deal this week, is at his boyhood club and they're in pole position for promotion outside the relegated three. | | | |

Obviously you've got to fill the spare centre back slot and Trusty looks an excellent candidate for the post (although he looks like a stretch target and ideally you'd want to be adding in a bit more experience there).
The other two ... the closer we get to the season, the less appetite I have to rotate players in and out really. The other two candidates highlight what the issue is, really. If you're getting in players who've missed your pre-season and will need integrating into the team then I think you need them to be a big jump in quality, with a big potential upside.
No chance we sign Scarlett permanently, I'm sure he's got a higher ceiling than most of our attacking players but there's been no obvious sign that he's ready to be a breakout star in the Championship right now. More sensible (and cheaper) just to keep the guys we've got.
Same with Bishop really. In a long contract, best player at a biggish L1 club, would cost a fair bit. Lot of money to displace Ladapo, who's more proven at our current level and, again, can be relied on, knows the system etc.
If these are the sort of guys we're talking about then the transfers don't make sense. If a potential loan or permanent transfer comes up that dramatically improves our options, a big leap rather than a marginal gain (I'd put Ben Wiles in that category for instance), then I think you do that and move on whoever you need to. I think we have room 1 more as is currently? Could be wrong on that maybe at our limit now.

Another small link but considering these boys all talk to each other as per Omari Hutchinson stating he spoke to TJJ, Clarke etc.. just noticed Hutch follows Dane Scarlett.. Normally wouldn’t read into that but the other players he follows tend to be super stars.. (not many other players as such) obviously a friendship there to follow a fellow young “Spurs” player. Especially as he came from Arsenal..
I’m sure KMc may also have come across Scarlett and we know we were interested in Jan. We tend to follow through with our conviction in regards targets don’t we…. | |
