Humphreys 06:55 - Aug 10 with 1895 viewstractorboy1978

He was excellent last night when he came on. He plays with a maturity and composure far beyond his years. Does the basics so well and very, very rarely makes the wrong pass or decision. This isn't meant as a dig at Hutchinson but if you watch the two of them you'd think Cam was the one that had been schooled at two elite academies.

I really hope he sticks around for another year under McKenna and doesn't go out on loan - he seems to be developing quite nicely here. I also think he can play a decent part here and can push his way into our starting line up.

He looked quality when he came on. Uses the ball so well, always shows for it, seems to just glide around the pitch as well. I really like him as a player.

Would have been a good sub on Sunday when we couldn’t retain the ball.

The only Muff in Town.

Can't see him starting ahead of Morsy, Luongo, Taylor, Evans or Ball, in the DM position, atm.. But it's obviously something he'll be pushing for, personally. If he stays here this season..
I think it's a tricky one, finding him the right kind of loan move. Bit like Baggot..
Think both players would be useful to have around until January, assuming we progress in League Cup.
We looked stacked in MF, this time last season, too.And we all know how that turned out. So there's an argument to keep Humphreys on board.

I agree entirely. However, I think that if he stays he will get some opportunities. It was a bit disappointing that he didn't get to start last night (but entirely understandable that Evans and Taylor needed pitch time). He needs to get the same sort of pitch time as last season at this level or much more at the level below. He really does look a great prospect. I wonder if by the end of the season he might be first choice on the bench ahead of Luongo and Evans. Ball appears to be more cover in defence than midfield now. His versatility is the strength to his bow.

Think he’ll be ahead of Evans and Ball very soon.

More energy than Evans, more vision than Ball. Oozes class. What they have over him is experience: he either gets it here (not sure how) or goes on loan.

Decision time soon what happens with him till the New Year.

Do you think we could afford to keep Humphreys, who wouldn’t take a up a valuable squad place, and move on Evans who would free up a space?

Morsy, Ball, LUongo and Taylor don’t have the passing range of Evans but Humphreys does. If he’s ready then let’s keep him as a bench option.

I'd say physicality, too. I love Humphreys clever play and creativity. But that DM area can be quite combative. He'll look great in games that we are relatively in control of. But it remains to be seen, how many games well have, like that, in The Championship. Hopefully more than some are expecting.
I'm not trying to be harsh on Humphreys. But the physicality we get from Morsey and Luongo, is hard for most of the other MF to replicate, imo. It's a really solid pairing. Like you say though, a few months is a long time in football. He may well grow in stature and start pushing the regular starters by the end of the season, if he's not loaned out....

Was a key player last season, if we get rid of him it will be madness, lets be honest he had a better first season with us than Downes or Dozzell did, he's only going to get better, I would like to see him play for us in the Championship, maybe not every game, but if we gave Humphreys and Baggott the Burley treatment of a clever introduction and selection during the right games then we will have two great players on our books. He'd be wasted for another season in the third tier.

Personally, I'd say yes. He's a natural footballer and I don't think he'd look out of his depth deputising occasionally in the Championship. There will be some games that might be too physical for him at this stage but we've got other options to cover those. It's whether anyone would actually come in for Evans with his injury record, he is one I wouldn't be too sad to see go.

They like Ball so they’ll keep him but strongly suspect Evans and Edwards will be gone soon to free up some slots.
Humph probably out on loan soon but he is mint and I’d love to see him stay, battle, get a place and keep it. Probs won’t happen though.

That's not a bad shout actually. They'd see it as a fairly high profile signing and could get close to his wages here. Guaranteed football for him.

Totally agree.

Brutal game. Evans was first choice a year ago, though would be obvious one to make way now with Luongo’s physicality and class, Ball’s versatility and determination, Humphreys potential and Taylor’s goal threat and (expected) quality.

I think that Humphreys doesn’t take up a squad spot makes him quite an important one to keep.
