Anyone use Now TV for sport and entertainment? 21:30 - Aug 9 with 3124 viewsGavTWTD

Looking at reducing my Sky satellite payments. What's the delay like on live football?

I did look at Sky Stream but that's still expensive. All my TVs have the Now TV app.

Possible they may reduce my payments once I start the cancellation process.

Have used NOW TV (via BT) for quite a few years and not noticed a significant delay. IFollow delays were more noticeable.

I use it sometimes. There is a slight delay, but only up to 10 or so seconds. I don’t get any spoilers off here, but you’d want to avoid live radio. That’s the only time the delay is noticeable imo.

Going only by my £12 one-off sub on Sunday, very little delay other than the usual few seconds.

Was a bit irritating that the screen narrowed (top to bottom) every time I touched the trackpad on my laptop tho.

Sky will most certainly give you deals if you tell them you are going to cancel. A mate of mine cancels his sports subscription at the end of the footie season. Then rings them at the start of the new season to sign up to the new deals. It's just a faff cancelling and calling them at the end of your discounted period.

Which reminds me, my broadband and full TV package is out of contract so need to get on to them.

IPTV and other options are cheaper but in my experience nothing beats the sky UI/EPG/recording/UHD etc etc. Mind you I don't have any cable options available where I live. (Virgin Media etc)

During the Ashes I was often messaging with a mate, with me watching via NowTV while he's got proper Sky TV.

We found I was usually no more than 2 balls (deliveries!) behind him, so there is a delay, but as long as you avoid anything with potential for spoilers for a minute or so then you'll be fine.

Plus if you get one of their near-constant 6 months for £20 or whatever deals, you'll save a chunk of money.

I have BT and not SKy so to watch sport from Sky I have a Now Pass, got a six month deal at £21 a month, won't pay the full price £34.99 for it.

I can confirm the delay is almost exactly 1 minute, was watching the Sunderland game and very frustrating having the Chat room open and see a goal scored and having to wait another 60 sec to see it on the TV.

You'd think in this day and age they could irradicate the delay. Just use same tech they use for online gaming.

Not legal though and as I'm not anonymous I wouldn't publically want to go down that route. I don't mind paying for something, but the current Sky package is insane.

A minute or so behind

I had it when I went through a cost cutting drive a few years back and also went to some freesat thing but quickly realised that they were both pretty rubbish.

Why not get a firestick and steal Sky and everything else for £50 a year?

I didn't know it was illegal - is that just in the UK?

If you’re trying to replace Sky completely with NowTV I have a feeling you will be disappointed. I opt out of Sky Sports just because I rarely want to use it unless Ipswich are involved, and I buy day passes when that happens.

Personally I don’t see any sense in getting NowTV when you can just get a hooky firestick for half the price and it has everything you need.

I finally gave up on Sky at teh start of last season, fed up of having to buy the basic Entertainment package which we never watch just to get Sports. They end up giving you a big discount on Sports but not on the Entertainment bit, so I couldn't get the price much below £35 - ridiculous just for football which is all I watch.

I've since gone to NOW TV, usually £25 a month but NO contract so you can easily cancel in May. When you do cancel you'll inevitably be offered a discount - I'm currently paying £19.99 for full Sky Sports package and am well happy with it.

Does seem to be a slight delay but doesn't bother me. I miss the option to pause live TV but can live without it.

I have found the delay to be quite minimal for the most part. The only gripe I have with it is that on occasion I have been watching on my phone while I do something else before moving over to the TV. Sometimes takes 15 minutes or so for it to accept that I am no longer watching on another device.

Missed about half an hour of the Austrian grand prix when the Ashes was on because of that, although in terms of action, I missed nothing.

Hello son

I ditched my old dodgy box thing and got a new dodgy firestick today - although I'm not yet sure of the porn capability as I'm not near TV - I'm up north.

I will report back.

My Man City mate (donut burger) is sorting mine from next month.

I don’t need porn as I’m as I am one of Yorkshires most sought after bachelors, but hope it works out for you ok.

I have an elderly nvidia shield which is fantastic. Although I have a smart TV I use the shield for Amazon Prime, Disney plus and *cough* kodi.

I can watch most sports events but again Sky and premium services just work. Rather than chasing around for various streams that can crap out at any stage. A vpn helps with anonymity but does add overhead.

Again it all depends on budget for people. Loads of cheaper along with less legit ways of watching sports. But if like me you literally will watch any footie on the box, and the family want all the sky bits and bobs then a good quality service is worth the premium imho.

As a platinum Sky TV customer for over a century I do wish they would have a loyalty program apart from VIP Rewards. But that's their model, and it's just the effort in calling them up and saying I'm only paying X and they tell you what is possible.

I pay £14.99 a month for Sky Sports on Now TV and it is fine. Once you have an account they email you offers.

HD Boost is £6 extra but they usually do that for a promotional £2 if you click to cancel the HD Boost.
