And Nodge then did their typical yo-yo straight back down, whilst Town emulated 2000/1.

As funny as it would be to see them fail I'm not adverse to the idea of both of us getting promoted. It would be awesome to have a premier League derby once again.

The jammy gits always seem to find some youth prospect who ends up being brilliant and who can be sold for a large amount down the line.

It’s the result of having a strong academy. It’s an area Evans abandoned and Gamechanger don’t seem to be rectifying to the level required.

And strugglers such as Hull and Birmingham appear rejuvenated. It’s why I despise all the stupid blogs and social accounts touting us as some amazing team. We’re about half a mile into a marathon.

Good academy plus Premier League money over the past 15 years of going up and down.

Hard to have a strong academy when you’ve basically abandoned your own area and are rotting away in L1 after decades of under investment and failure. It’s a bit harsh to suggest Gamechanger don’t seem to be rectifying to the level required. You first have to get a footprint in your area, sort out your facilities, staffing, community stuff and scouting network etc. You have to stimulate interest in your club, establish an identity beyond a rest home for the pension seekers, journeymen and dross with a tree growing out of the roof. They’ve been doing that. Establishing a youth system that actually works for us will take time and with the provision of new pitches etc I’ve no doubt they’re working on it. Cat 1 and the CEOs lukewarm response to it? That’s always raised an eyebrow with me, but I don’t know enough about it. The likes of Alan Lee have been pretty scathing about the lack of players that have come through and the point is well made, despite the emergence of Woolfy and Cameron H. It couldn’t continue as it was and given recruitment I doubt it is. I expect and hope this is raised at the next forum with McKenna and Ashton.

The lukewarm reaction to Category 1 is what I was referring to. Part of me wonders if they’re considering the Brentford model in disbanding the academy and picking up young players discarded by Category One clubs.

I've heard there is interest from leeds which makes sense given the connection with farke. Hopefully, leeds wont sign him until the last couple of days of the window by which time we would have played them and ncfc will have minimal time to replace him this window

Trying to get Cat1 these days is next to impossible. The existing Cat1 Academies have virtually pulled up the drawbridge and want to hold on to the advantages that status gives them. Another legacy of the Evans disaster unfortunately. Even Evans ultimately recognised he had made a huge error and tried to rectify it later on but by then it was too late. In short, for the sake of saving a few quid, we didn’t go for Cat1 status right at the beginning of the system, which has consequences to this day!
