Rishi's new rail plan already looking as shady as everyone assumed 21:28 - Oct 5 with 2130 views | Dubtractor | This is the 3rd or 4th of these I've seen today, where he either committed to things that already exist, or the commitment already being watered down.

Rishi's new rail plan already looking as shady as everyone assumed on 21:33 - Oct 5 with 2089 views | DJR | Rishi's obviously not the detail geek he's made out to be. And the message on his lectern yesterday, Long Term Decisions For A Brighter Future, hasn't survived a day.

The whole thing was so paper thin its untrue - the amount of consultations, planning, design, viability studies, procurement etc etc that would be needed for what they are suggesting is mental, just made it such an obviously meaningless promise.

Neither Northern nor new. Not sure on which planet it ticks any of yesterday's boxes.

It’s just bury the bad news with a load of made up cr…. stuff that took a few of them about 10 mins to come up with over a HoC bottle of wine, a stolen pen and a beer mat.

Do you reckon? He’s utterly hopeless. Although marginally less utterly hopeless than Truss. We saw from the leadership election debates that neither of them had anything to offer.

They couldn’t even be arsed to consult on the true stuff they’re suggesting (e.g. reform of A levels, in a decade, maybe). So yeah, there’s no chance they consulted over all their made up rubbish.

We'll reinvest every penny of this £34 billion, losing half of it on these projects that will inevitably be scrapped It's an interesting strategy, given you simply annoy further sways of the country with broken promises left, right and centre

Rishi's new rail plan already looking as shady as everyone assumed on 10:51 - Oct 6 with 1593 views | Guthrum | I did like the line about selling the compulsorily-purchased land offsetting the cost of buying out of contracts already signed for work on the northern stretch. So we're all square, then? Completely ignoring the cost of those compulsory purchases in the first place!

I didn't think the Ely junction changes had passed through consultation yet & the locals aren't happy with what Network Rail has proposed because it cuts off alot of level crossings, meaning longer diversions to get around the area by road. The one detail I think everyone missed is these were announced as plans for the period 2029-2040. Meaning even if Rishi won the next election, he'd have to win the one after to be in office when any work on this started, and the one after before any grand openings.
