Hladky's misplaced pass 10:02 - Dec 14 with 2624 viewsDJR

Looking at the highlights, and the direction Hladky passed the ball, I wonder if he didn't see the Watford player whose yellow kit might have been camouflaged by the large area of yellow empty seating in that corner of the ground.

Obviously pure speculation on my part, and I can't be sure on the angles, but it is clear Hladky wasn't passing to Burgess, the nearest player to him, and it is unlike him to misplace a pass.

No, it wasn't a great ball into him but he made a mess of it. That was obvious well before he played the pass out. I think he could probably have done a bit better with the first shot too, pushed it right back out.

Think you’re right. In real time it looked like the pass was intended for Leif, albeit under hit slightly, and he simply didn’t spot the Watford player.

I personally think he intended it just to add to the excitement of giving them the lead

Winning 2-0 at Boro' was fairly routine by gifted Watford a goal he was just making it more entertaining for the travelling fans

My view is that Hladky managed to put an unintended curve on the ball's trajectory when he kicked it, his foot was pointing at Burgess (?) but his mind was recalling the goal Burns scored against Coventry...

The Watford player was also just arriving in that area from further up the pitch, putting him in a prime position (and moving in the right direction) to intercept when he wasn't there a moment before.

In addition their first player pressed Hladky much closer than is often the case with forwards on 'keepers - and right in front of his goalmouth. Which both rushed him and reduced the margin for error (e.g. a feint and taking the ball the other way would have been much riskier than usual).

Hladky does not misplace passes, he puts them precisely where he means to.

Ahem.. Extension of rope a dope.

His rope a dope playing it out from the back has evolved into giving the opposition a head start, then cruelly destroying their hopes.

But I'd rather like a clean sheet Saturday please.

Looked like he scuffed the wet ball from my angle. Thought it was aimed at Burgess.

I don't think there was much wrong with the ball back to him from Tuanzebe, that's the sort of bravery we're encouraged to have on the ball. Watford pressed really quickly on that occasion and Hladky seemed pretty unsure with that one from the off. Don't think the conditions helped really, think he's then caught in 2 minds and ends up trying to play it to Davis who is in the left back position, but under hits it massively. Not sure if he didn't see the Watford player or just mishit the pass, but I'm pretty sure he was trying to find Davis.

It's not as obvious on replay, but was right behind and when the initial Watford player presses him, he tries to drop his shoulder and dummy him and the Watford player doesn't buy it at all and from that point he looked unsure and rushed

I must've been standing not far from you, I was just to the left of the goal and was pretty sure his outball was intended for Davis. Dicing with danger really, your keeper dropping his shoulder on his goal line 10 minutes in to an away game in the p1ssing down rain, but it's how we play. Someone mentioned not seeing the Watford player, that's possible as I must admit once or twice I struggled with the rain and floodlights and yellow / black jerseys.

I thought at the time whether he was initially going to pick it up and then realised he couldn't and got himself in a mess from there, but when I looked at it again he was either feinting to kick long and planning to do so and still got himself in a bit of a mess and then rushed and scuffed his pass.

I think, loking at the angle from behind him when he played it, he was in two minds to play it to Burgess or lift it to Leif and did neither.

It will happen, it wont stop him playing that way and the team were supportive and just carried on as usual

I am sure it will happen again but it the risk you take to play how we do and that is working well
