That’s not how I see it If you wanted to you could give a message out: “We really value Kieran, and will do all we can to keep him at the club. He knows how ambitious we are” “We’ve had no approach from any club and are happy to keep it that way” “We will fight as hard as we can to keep him, but recognise that we can’t offer him everything some of the other clubs mentioned in the media can do” And plenty of others. But radio silence, on the record and on background. Like there was with Palace last season. [Post edited 21 May 2024 13:10]

What, exactly, would that achieve? Words are meaningless.

Even if the club came out tomorrow and said he’s not going anywhere, it would still be forgotten after two days of being linked to other clubs, and the madness would resume.

That's just flannel, nothing we don't already know. In the case of the second statement, may not be true any more. Or the third.

Plenty of clubs feel they have to say something when their manager is on the back page of serious newspapers. I’m not saying they should say something. But I’m slightly surprised they aren’t saying anything. No off-the-record “I hear” briefings to either Phil or Watson. Not right, not wrong, but notable | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That is clearly not true, is it? The people who are reporting on this are serious journalists. They don’t just make this up.

And? Any Club statement is utterly moot and pointless.

That’s ridiculous. We know the club values Kieran, they wouldn’t need to reiterate anything like that. As for situations involving managers they are fluid. How does a club report that? Something like, don’t worry no interest in Kieran, then “nope hang there is now” then sorry interest is over” then “Hold on Chelsea want him now” what are they supposed to report? I guess right now they are too busy trying to keep him than worrying about feeding us ‘ifs, buts and maybes’

Its just speculation though. Journalists often don't know much more than you and me until they get the story of which they are are first in line and then we hear something. All the stuff over the last few days has just been noise and speculation. There is not one quoted source in any media on the Brighton/Mckenna link! The club won't comment on speculation, they'll comment on facts.

Very noticeable how little briefing the club is doing here on 15:19 - May 21 with 2225 views | wkj | Not knowing is frustrating but what good would it do if the club came out saying "We know there is interest, and we're doing our part to bring about a conclusion as soon as possible" Ashton and the board are no slackers, and KmC has integrity - I think we can rest assure knowing that the club is doing their part to bring about a conclusion as soon as possible without them needing to state as much.

Have you actually read the article? What are the club supposed to come out and say in response to it? “Brighton are not interested in Kieran McKenna” Because all the article is implying is that Brighton are pushing for the most prized young manager in the country at the moment. Well no sh!t.

I’m not saying the club *should* say something. Merely that often some reporters close to the club get a little information. Not happening here. And it seems often does in other clubs. Not least in Brighton who are dribbling a little out. So to speak

Love a bit of Depeche Mode, never used to, but... ...what is the annoying 80s song I'm trying to think of with the line "What are words worth?" in it? I think it went on with a list of things that "Words are:" With a bit of a silly vocal style and 80s synthesiser gubbins. I can't think of it, can't find it on t'Internet, and I don't think I'll get the feckr out of my brain until I know what it is.
