Playing style 08:03 - May 26 with 3085 views | victorysquad | Brighton have succeeded with our playing style, Burnley failed, has anyone analysed why?

Attack is the best form of defence. We will need to attack these sides, as if we try and play for the draw, we will get beat. A bit of quality and experience is needed, but other than that, we go again.

This. Two seasons of Hughton in the Prem.

Playing style on 09:46 - May 26 with 2714 views | SouthfieldsBlue | I think I disagree with the premise that we play particularly similarly to either Brighton or Burnely who are both much more Man City like of keep the ball at all cost, any cost. We have a far greater willingness to go direct and don't move the ball forward much much quicker than those teams, the best Championship comparison for then is Leicester. I don't think the question for us is can we maintain that possession heavy style in the Prem, as we don't have it, it's can we keep the style where we induce the press, or crucially even if we will need to as teams look to attack us mire.

Playing style on 13:47 - May 26 with 2490 views | OldFart71 | Obviously we still need to attack, but the Premier League will be a totally different kettle of fish. One mistake in midfield or at the back and our opponents will score. Given that although we were top scorers we also leaked a lot more goals than the other teams in the top four. I doubt very much that two of the four at the back are good enough and our midfield is made up of two players in the twilight of their careers and Taylor hasn't proven he can make one of those his own. I think we need another four players. Two have already departed I believe ? Aluko and Jackson. Sarmiento ,Moore, Williams and Hutchinson have both gone back to their clubs, then we have Ball, Donacien and one of either Hladky or Walton and Tuanzebe who could also go. If that were the case instead of four we would need another ten players coming in. Quite a task. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We'll need 8-10 players coming in to replace natural churn in the playing staff and those returning to their loan clubs. I don't think that's unrealistic whoever is our manager, but we'll still be keeping the core of the playing squad. As for playing style we aren't like Burnley at all, we are one of the most direct (not as in long ball) teams in the championship. I think we would adapt our playing style this season to a much more counter attacking style. If McKenna isn't here, Steve Cooper would be almost ideal having played that system at Forest.

Thats actually what I was thinking too. You see how Man Utd setup yesterday, I don't know if you would call it a 'low block' or not, but a highly organised defensive unit until the counter opportunities come. Would love to get Alan Armstrong (or szmodics). [Post edited 26 May 2024 15:44]

At 77, it might be a bit late for Alan Armstrong to transition from acting to football.
