Brighton believed on 11:21 - May 26 with 5613 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | I think it’s United or KM stays. If the big guns are over to offer KM a bumper new contract then Brighton becomes less compelling. Brighton seems an unnecessary stepping stone, and surely all the Chelsea, United interest will have shown that to KM. It’s clear that there’s a shortage of young, talented, progressive coaches and the big clubs are turning to the likes of MckEnna, Maresca, and Kompany because the alternative is all the same tired, journeyman ‘names’.

One positive on 11:28 - May 26 with 5539 views | unstableblue | McKenna is all about the detail, the planning, the structures, the squad readiness. For his first season in the Premier League he’ll want to be getting as much time at his chosen club to prepare. In fact I’m sure he’s already working hard at Ipswich on recruitment, squad retention list, pre-season training camp plans, and analysing the Premiership teams to understand their strengths and weaknesses. As a result and positively I am sure he’ll want to have surety and be in a secured position - which could be Town - by the end of June. He may not have spoken in person to any of the suitors. It may be his agent creating options for him to decide upon, before firm interviews. Brighton will want an answer ASAP, Man U are days or weeks away from an appointment from their list of 4 or 5, with Ten Hag, perhaps just still in the mix. Same for Chelsea. McKenna is obviously waiting to get the big picture and I doubt a firm offer is there from United or even Chelsea yet. And time ticks on Another factor is the Euros, it’s a condensed close season, the transfer activity at the top level will be much later and training camps will also start later. So another period of limbo. Town can be pillaging the Championships finest at this point. What will be will be.

Of course it’s based on my assumption, hence the ‘I think’ prefix. Very very few posters on here are in the know, 1 or 2 at most. Despite the claims of many. [Post edited 26 May 2024 11:50]

End of June ? You think we will have to wait till the end of June to see if he is staying ?
Brighton believed on 13:22 - May 26 with 4783 views | Illinoisblue | Cool. Totally cool. We’ll just sit and wait until the important clubs have decided their plans and THEN we’ll pick up the pieces. Whatever KM decides to do, it’s soured the relationship.

But why? Because of rumours spread by third parties (the press)? I'm sure if McKenna stays at Ipswich, he'll be as dedicated to us as ever. Indeed, it means he will have picked us over any juicy (or flawed, but still alluring) offers from elsewhere.

Surely it was KM’s own agents feeding the press?

Was it only them, or were the clubs doing it, too? Were the reports what McKenna thinks, or just what his agents want to portray? This is a negotiation, a contest, not a simple exchange of views. Also, for that matter, a story of significant interest to readers of football journalism, so worth spicing up.

Oh, no doubt. There are games behind the games. For the record I would be delighted if KM stays. Just wish we hadn’t had this circus sucking the life out of the post promotion euphoria.

I get where you are coming from but I don't think it has, not really. Any manager at a club of our size is going to have his head turned by interest from the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd, it's inevitable. If he goes to Brighton now though, after all this, I will be seriously pi**ed.

For me, this was the one that pissed me off, his agent briefing this story presumably before he'd even heard the Ipswich offer given Schwartz hadn't arrived yet https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c3ggpj1j4y7o ...and this line in particular..."BBC Sport understands that is expected to fail with the manager, and assistant Martyn Pert, feeling the time is right to move." He might even think this, but it shouldn't come out in the press as it is lines like this that tarnish his reputation and what he's done at Ipswich, shows a lack of class which is precisely the opposite to what we'd expect from him.
