I suppose we will see the usual parade of royals wearing medals they haven't earned & uniforms they are only entitled as a result of being given a titular title such as "colonel in chief". Yes, I do know that Harry & Andrew have seen combat, but I doubt either of them will be in evidence.

Would you care to go through them with us and explain what they are for?
Any where have I claimed any knowledge on the subject of medals. I have no idea what they are, but it does look impressive. Lot of silver polish needed anyway.

To be fair the royal family have a long history of being involved with the armed forces. I think that they have very close links with various regiments.
I don’t particularly have a problem with Charles wearing a lot of medals as we all know that they are meaningless. Although I’m a republican, Charles has promised to modernise royalty and to streamline it further. I haven’t seen much evidence of this so far but it’s early days.
Abolish the monarchy.

Most of the King's medals relate to orders of which he is head (Garter, Bath, etc.) or ceremonial events in which he took part (e.g. the Queen's jubilees). There's only a couple of strictly military ones.

He’s gone very lame on his supposed environmental interests as well. If they can’t affect anything, it does make you wonder what the point of them is other than to fill tabloid columns and for people to go ‘rah, rah’ over. A lot of us don’t need that though.

True but he was in the navy. Albeit he didn't like it much.

Most of Charles' decorations aren't military, but chivalric.

Being kind maybe it’s easier for a prince to be ‘outspoken’ on issues than it is for a King. Or maybe the government have simply told him to shut up and he has.

You are correct though it is a protocol that goes back decades. The late Queen never had the chance to be outspoken as she inherited the throne earlyish in life. At least Charles had the chance to spout forth on his chosen interests.

The King did serve, but not to the extent that that luxurious length of medals suggests!
Charles did 5 years of military service, but never saw any action. Will Prince Edward be wearing uniform &medals, to commemorate his 3 years as a university cadet in the Marines?

The whole point is that these honorary titles such as "colonel in chief" are part of the deception to convince us that the royal are still actively involved in the military. I remember us laughing at Ugandan dictator Idi Amin endlessly awarding himself medals; subsequently, our royals have become a parody of Muttley & Dastardly (older readers only).

I think most people - even the most ardent royalist - knows that the medals that Charles wears are pointless. If he awarded himself the VC etc then there would be a case for being concerned. But it’s the royal family and so it all for show and rather pointless.

I think you are over-estimating the knowledge of a large number of the public. Yes, it's all for show & part of the royal charade.

Yeah. I was convinced that Charles at 70 odd and with cancer was running the army. Thanks for putting us straight on that.

Hardly subsequent, the royals have been gonged up to the max back to the 19th century and before no doubt, not something to pin on the last generation or two.
