I suppose we will see the usual parade of royals wearing medals they haven't earned & uniforms they are only entitled as a result of being given a titular title such as "colonel in chief". Yes, I do know that Harry & Andrew have seen combat, but I doubt either of them will be in evidence.

Hardly subsequent, the royals have been gonged up to the max back to the 19th century and before no doubt, not something to pin on the last generation or two.
Yes, the world has changed, but much of the fawning & deference to the royals hasn't & it's high time it did. It's about changing society for the better, not apportioning blame.

He’s gone very lame on his supposed environmental interests as well. If they can’t affect anything, it does make you wonder what the point of them is other than to fill tabloid columns and for people to go ‘rah, rah’ over. A lot of us don’t need that though.
The point is very simply that if they weren’t there you would have President Boris Johnson in absolute power.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Another false argument that is regularly trotted out to defend the monarchy. Yes. I wouldn't want President Boris or President Blair either. Rule 1 of the Republic is that the President (an apolitical role, which works well in Ireland) may NOT be a current or former member of the Commons or Lords. Charles would be welcome to stand.

If an apolitical figure, wouldn't the role be purely cermonial. The same as the royals but rather more beige or grey?

Yes, it would remain a largely ceremonial role, but without all the deference, expense, toadying, hangers-on etc which surrounds the monarchy. It's also central to the corrupt and arguably even more damaging honours system.

I guess this argument explains a lot of your previous posts quite well.
Who do you think the President would be?

Phil Ham would be the obvious choice
I nearly added him Keno, problem was rule#23876. That if voting between the candidates results in a tight finish the 2 candidates with the highest voting numbers shall fight it out til the death with nunchucks.
I didn't think we could risk losing his mediation skills to 1 well timed Noddy Holder nunchuck attack

The whole point is that these honorary titles such as "colonel in chief" are part of the deception to convince us that the royal are still actively involved in the military. I remember us laughing at Ugandan dictator Idi Amin endlessly awarding himself medals; subsequently, our royals have become a parody of Muttley & Dastardly (older readers only).
Bearing in mind that the armed forces swear allegiance to the crown and not the state and the monarch is commander in chief of the forces he/ she is very much involved with the military! You would be very surprised how seriously the various members take the colonel in chief role.

Does it not worry anyone else that the army regularly practices military manoeuvres in the centre of London close to the Houses of Parliament?

Why do you need a President? PM as head of state will be perfectly fine.
I think you nominally need someone above with some executive powers in case that pm gives himself dictatorial powers for instance. Checks and balances, like

President Nigel Farage then - he seems popular in some quarters, and would likely get even more exposure/publicity from our national broadcaster to boost his ratings if he were to stand.
