I suppose we will see the usual parade of royals wearing medals they haven't earned & uniforms they are only entitled as a result of being given a titular title such as "colonel in chief". Yes, I do know that Harry & Andrew have seen combat, but I doubt either of them will be in evidence.
The country would lose a great deal of money if the monarchy were abolished. People from many countries love the whole idea of our Royal Family, Americans above all. Even if a President lived at Buckingham Palace it would not attract people to come to the UK for their holiday.
This may seem illogical and silly but it would still be so!

I think you nominally need someone above with some executive powers in case that pm gives himself dictatorial powers for instance. Checks and balances, like
Like when the Prime Minister illegally prorogued Parliament and Betty bottled it, you mean?
That was the moment I lost my nominal support for the Royals. The Head of State was supposed to be the last of the Checks and Balances.

If Charles isn't doing a full braveheart speech while daubed in blue paint I'm refusing to go over the top
Probably because the film is historically inaccurate and the Scots didn’t wear face paint.
Go back a few hundred years and the Picts are thought to have daubed woad on their naked bodies.
Back to Trooping the Colour and Charles’ medals, the former gets a thumbs up from me, the medals - ceremonial, honorific, earned; all fine by me. He is after all head of state.
I am a Parliamentarian/New Model Army/Roundhead/Republican but while we have the monarchy, military traditions like this are for me a good thing.
As for Charles, he looks seriously unwell to me so I’m not surprised things he might be interested in like ‘green issues’ have not progressed as much as he’d like.

Argh, historians say lots of stuff, unless I see photographic evidence otherwise I'm taking Braveheart at face value.

Despite my Scottish heritage, I've never seen or wanted to see Braveheart for just the reason you mention. The awful accent didn't help either.
And when it comes to the Picts, the name itself is derived from the Latin "pictus" meaning painted.

He was betrayed by a Scottish nobleman called John Mentieth. He received a fair trial in the Great Hall, where he was not allowed to offer a defence, not that he recognised his accusers.
He was butchered in 1305 at Smithfield Market and I doubt he said ‘Freedom’ after what was done to him. His head was dipped in tar and displayed on a pole on London Bridge. The nearest he got to face painting.

A memorial to William Wallace was placed in Smithfield Square as recently as 1956. Yes, Braveheart was riddled with inaccuracies, but that's Hollywood for you & I still found it an enjoyable film.

It was well made, but like Titanic the inaccuracies really annoyed me.
I get with film making you have to take a few liberties to make the film work, but to drift it away as Braveheart, Titanic and the Kate Beckinsale Pearl Harbour did destroys it for me.
Films like Apollo 13 and even Zulu - fine.
