Allan Hunter on 09:44 - Jun 30 with 1557 views | norfsufblue | Magnificent centre half, old school for sure, took no prisoners but could happily take it too, can't remember ever seeing him "injured"... he sorted his and other's problems out himself as sniffer Clarke would know. Privileged to see him and The Beat together in their prime! [Post edited 30 Jun 2024 9:51]

He was a terrific player. His partnership with Beattie is rightly the stuff of ITFC legend. Hunter wasn’t the fastest, but he was quicker than he looked and was rarely caught out. Good in the air and on the ground, he could tackle and nobody took liberties with him. Big Al had a real presence on the pitch. The only howler I can recall was punching the ball out of the penalty area in the FA Cup Semi Final against West Brom. There’s great footage of KB going WTF and Hunter arms wide going ‘I dunno!’. We’ve all been there. In my view, he and Beattie were better than the great Butcher/Osman partnership. My dad met him a few years ago and said what a nice bloke he was. Very much accords with everything I’ve heard about him. Happy birthday Mr Hunter.

Absolutely echo this. Big Al still one of my heroes and you’re right, he is a total gentleman. Have met him many times and played a few rounds of golf with him, including one round that included Bryan Hamilton too. The banter between those two was hilarious. He’s suffered a lot over the years with hips, knees and ankles. Lots of replacements. These guys were brave, playing with all sorts of injuries with pre-match and even half time injections to keep them mobile. Happy birthday big Al and many more to come.

Funnily enough he was with Hamilton when my dad met him. Roger Osborne too. It was one of those promotional events after a book about the FA Cup win was launched. Strangely everyone in the audience left after the chat/Q&A but my dad held back and got yarning with them in the end for an hour or two. He said it was obvious that Bryan and Allan were good mates.
Allan Hunter on 12:06 - Jun 30 with 1347 views | jontysnut | I used to love the finger pointing at an opposition player, a sure sign that he would be flying towards row z at some point. A gent though, lives near my dad and always has time for a chat.

I had the pleasure of watching Hunter for years at Portman Road and also watching his son Lee playing in the non league [Post edited 30 Jun 2024 12:33]

Allan Hunter on 14:20 - Jun 30 with 1211 views | Scuzzer | I have a claim to fame with Big Al. He used to take training for Post Office Research. I can actually say I've played leapfrog with him. First thing he used to do when back in the changing room was to light up a Woodbine. But I must say he was an absolute gent. A really nice guy.
