Porcupine Tree. Well known amongst prog/art rock fans but could have been better known commercially as I think a lot of their stuff is quite accessible. Would recommend checking out their front man Steven Wilson's solo stuff as well.

Totally agree about The Sound. I'd heard of them in the mid-80s being compared to U2/Joy Division/Echo & the Bunnymen but never got round to hearing them or seeing them. Fast forward about 20 years and I took a punt and bought a Cherry Red box set of their first 3 albums. Absolutely brilliant.

From the 90s these guys should have seen some degree of commercial success but they never really did.
One of my favourite albums of all time. Cannot fathom how they weren’t massive - most bands would die to have songs as strong as theirs. IMO of course.
