Idiot Martin thinks it was a careless set piece they conceded… 12:02 - Sep 22 with 1346 viewsITFC_Forever

… for the equaliser.

Ramsdale was at full stretch to tip Hirst’s header over. What would he rather Ramsdale have done? Let it in?

I’m trying to get into his head so possibly he does think that. It’s easier to accept a header from open play (being scored) than a deflected shot. That’s all I have.

I don't think he's blaming Ramsdale. I think he's angry that Hirst was alone, surrounded by four or five Southampton players, yet still won the header. And maybe poor defending out wide allowing Clarke to get the cross in in the first place.

If Hirst had got full power on that, he wasn't stopping it anyway.

They highlighted that last night on MOTD. In phase one they didn't clear their lines which allowed Clarke to pick up the ball and in phase two something like 5 Southampton defenders left Hirst with a free header.

McKenna would have been pissed off had we conceded that corner.

Their goal also came from really sloppy defending though. I suspect that almost all goals can be attributed to mistakes, bar the odd worldy.

I couldn't believe that they didn't have anyone on the edge of their own box to challenge for a second ball. Morsy had a ridiculous amount of time to set himself.

I’ve been saying this for years.

(Virtually) Every goal is avoidable. Mark the player, make the tackle, don’t concede the set piece, don’t give the ball away etc.

Started with a silly free kick given away by Ross Stewart. Hey ho but who cares.
