been in there a few times. But a question - why does that sign on the right hand side say Pioneer? the photo must be prior to 72, were Pioneer even a thing then? Curious.

That North stand was only replaced in 2002, and the pic looks a bit 80s.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Another clue is the "member only" sign for what I think was the terrace in the old West Stand.

I started going mid 80s and for a couple of years stood on that terrace and am 99% sure there was no membership scheme at that time.

Don't even recall there being a scheme at all before I went off to college in 88.

Edit
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipswich_Town_F.C.

This says "The rebuilt West Stand was renamed the Pioneer Stand as a result of the club's sponsorship by the electronics company Pioneer Corporation and was converted to all-seating in 1990"

So I reckon it could well be 88/89 season, possibly 89/90.

Poll: This new lockdown poll - what you reckon?

It would be interesting to have a 360 of this photo, because I seem to remember the area behind to the side (which is now a big park) was once a huge run down car park. Them were the days.

Always remember it as a park and Town and West Ham having a tear up on it circa 1982 and it was a midweek game. Was mental that night. We won 3-2 if I remember correctly.

"You'll never seat the North Stand..."
They did - and it never sounded the same.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Hmmm. You've got me thinking now? I am sure the road behind the north was a well used road and then roadabout which used to be right in the middle of the road where they used to fix the double decker buses. From memory it would still have been like this back then. You have got me really thinking now? Maybe I am wrong then?

I think you’re right, either 89-90 or 90-91 was when membership came in, at least to get into the West Stand

And people moaned because the SBR Stand roof was dirty and the turnstiles needed painting. This was the North Stand I grew up with, although I was in Churchman's, standing on a milk crate, in my early years.

They tried it on at the snooker hall earlier that evening, got thrown out! Sure it was that one? Think it was about March time, we were still looking good for the title.

Spot on. 2nd March 82. I didn't get in that night and was hanging about at the back of the North. Loads of Town and Hammers fans who couldn't get in fighting on the grass. Can still see the image of a Hammers fan wielding one of those old road works lamps above his head.

Of you mean Alderman Rd park it's always been an open, green space.

The Ipswich Harriers had a " Club hut" on the edge of it almost facing the IBC bus " garage" where the road widens right out. As an Ipswich Harrier runner in the day (1969 - 1980s) wexslways used to meet at thd club hut on Thursday nights and go on runs around the town by pass etc ( miles!) And also on Tuesdsy nights we did training sessions on this park. J never recalled it being a car park, ever.

Poll: Would this current Town team beat the current narwich team
