Today was their first win since the hearing into their 100+ misdemeanours ended.

Maybe wishful thinking but not convinced it isn’t a coincidence they have been poor since the hearing ended. Makes you wonder if Man City’s legal team’s analysis of how the hearing went was unfavourable.

A case of we aren’t going to win anyway so why bother.

Elite athletes are more self motivated than that.

Pep doesn’t look motivated. He always gave the impression he had been told they had done nothing wrong but he looks as down in the dumps as the Spurs manager.

But if you watch them playing at the moment they really aren't looking motivated at all - their press of the ball against Leicester today was almost non existent. That's so out of character for a Pep team, let alone against a struggling team.

I'm not saying that the OPs theory is necessarily true, but something has clearly stopped Man City's players being properly motivated.

They've lost 3 out of 6 since the hearing finished.
They lost 6 out of the 8 matches prior to that.

So I don't think there's any correlation between their poor form and the ending of the hearing.

They will have had advice on the merits of their case from Lord Pannick long before the hearing started. Their legal team's feeling for how the case went is not more significant than that. They have a right of appeal so if Pannick thinks the wrong decision is made, they'll have another crack. But even if their feelings as to how the case went were especially important, they will have been getting those feelings throughout the case in response to their submissions and not solely on the last day.

Makes zero sense.

If they are in any danger of a points deduction the last thing they would do is tell the players.

Pep is Norman Lovett's "Holly from Red Dwarf" to Ange Postecoglu's Tony Hancock.

We all know Man City will get fined £5 and a stern talking to about their future conduct. There will be no radical points deductions/relegation.

This.

Neither of you know what the players would or wouldn't be told. They will have had discussions about it either with management or each other no doubt. Pretty sure Man city have an idea of what might happen. That sort of stuff will play psychologically.

If you think an Ipswich team sheet can be leaked each week, but the Man City players would be in the complete dark about their current situation, that is naive.

They are elite sportsmen but also human beings. So where it might not be a motivator to lose matches, it would no doubt be affecting them psychologically - which recent form also supports.

It does make you wonder. If there was any closeness to them being relegated.. if you're being paid the same amount each game regardless of the result. Its definitely a different mentality when wanting to win to fight for titles or Europe whilst playing football believing you're relegated regardless of how you perform.

a niche perspective
