Pragmatic, always learning, not stubborn or too proud. 23:15 - Dec 30 with 1669 viewshomer_123

This is what sets KMc apart.

In two games....he's set us us more defensively. Against the gunners we lacked a bit of attacking threat.

Tonight, albeit playing on the break, we caused Chelsea no end of problems. A deserved win.

But back to my point. Martin was stubborn and refused to adapt at Soton. KMc learns and I suspect always will do.

What a night.

It has taken a while tho.. many of us have been screaming for the off ball 5 at the back for a while

Absolute credit his way that he's done it and hope we continue with it as its sets solid foundations to build from and its shown its worth.

It may not suit some of those we brought in the summer maybe that's why he was reluctant to use it more perhaps. But needs must and its been great to see it

Here's the thing Frimmers.

He, rightly IMHO, stuck with what has worked for him so well. He's 'always' adapted and modified our approach but within the same identity.

Tonight, we saw a much more defensive approach but you can still see us in that, the movement the passing etc.

I think our tactics and setup surprised Chelsea tonight. Very effective and for the first time this season was quite relaxed going into the final 10 minutes.
What a performance from the lads.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

KM was stubborn but, belatedly, has now seen and accepted the need for change. Hopefully he will prioritise Pragmatism over principles.

Veni Vidi Participatur. Now we can get back to competing.

It's a shame we didn't switch to three at the back against Bournemouth in the last 10 minutes

This should set down a platform to build from, that is for sure

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

A lack of centre back on the bench makes sticking to a back three if one of them picks up an injury too. Who would have come on tonight in that scenario? Johnson?

And for this reason I expect us to have a much stronger second half of the season. KM and team learn and adapt so some of those fine margins we lost to will swing in our favour second time around.

Martin couldn't have adapted if he tried though. Man is a fraud of a manager.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

My only concern remains about the attacking threat still. Did we cause them no end of problems or was Delap simply unplayable tonight and created so many opportunities out of absolutely nothing?

We're still desperate for improvements in forward areas, hopefully we manage to get some deals done.

How we all longed for a younger manager that could adapt when we heard phrases like ‘the more they cheer for a player the less they’ll see of him’

Ha! I’d forgotten about that. And to think that kind of mentality and approach was deemed acceptable for so long by so many.

The other the thing about McKenna over the likes of Martin is how even tempered (publicly) he is. His demeanour really doesn’t change, whether it’s a hammering like Newcastle or a great result like last night. He is controlled, measured and quietly gets on with it.

He does try and adapt how we play. KMs instinct and my guess wish is for free flowing passing football. There’s a time and a place for that and last night and Arsenal wasn’t it.

We certainly did cause them problems. Both Broadhead’s effort and Delap’s thunderous near post hit were going in. Delap gave their defence nightmares and when they showed on chance arose I’m not sure Chelsea were too comfortable with Broadhead going at them either. What a great finish from Hutchinson too.

Despite how hard the Premier League has been, there’s a great togetherness about the players. It’s something else McKenna seems to generate assisted by the type of character they bring in? I wouldn’t want to rip that around too much in the transfer window. If we can find one, a forward, a box to box midfielder and the moon on a stick would do me.
