There were a few things that clicked last night, it was night and day compared 08:34 - Dec 31 with 1459 views | Lord_Lucan | to Newcastle. Ok, Delap had the game of his life, what a performance! For me though, the big difference was Walton, Greaves and Broadhead. The defence were absolutely awesome and I think they had a lot more confidence with Walton behind them. I couldn't help but notice about a minute or two from half time Walton leathered the ball rather than dink it yo a midfielder on the edge of the area. There is nothing wrong with playing out from the back but it's about timing. Broadhead is such a clever player, he completely adds a different dimension. I actually hope his absence has been for some disciplinary reason, otherwise I would question KMcK's sanity.

Catuton is always the better part of valour. Thank you KMac for choosing Walton.

Out of the back three, I'd argue Greaves was out weakest player (though still did very well). Broadhead was superb, as was Walton bar the one bizarre pass midway through the second half straight to their man with no one near him. Delap was man of the match for me, even though the sponsors gave it to Walton. I think we need to watch when he was a threat though - it was more on the turn and when he was asked to run onto the ball, rather than win it in the air, mainly because, with the latter, there are not enough bodies around him even when he manages to do so. Hope we pick up ok that moving forward.

There were a few things that clicked last night, it was night and day compared on 09:21 - Dec 31 with 1174 views | BloomBlue | I could be wrong, as I'm often wrong, but I got the impression KM had decided to put Walton in goal but basically say to him boot it out when you want, rather than pass it short. Every time we had a goal kick, Burns ran to the half way line right next to the touch line to give Walton an outlet for the long ball, so obviously they had practiced that in training. Whereas normally we always pass it short at goalkicks. Broadhead does things that no other Town player can do, that reverse ball to Delap, where the GK made a cracking save, said it all for me, such a clever pass. Any other Town player looks for a simple pass to the side there. I know some Town fans feel he isn't physically strong enough, but that finding of space, clever passes in the opposite direction had Chelsea on the back foot. On a couple of occasions, Maresca was waving his hands and shouting at the Chelsea midfield to get closer to Broadhead after he had found space. Another thing re Broadhead I thought he gave Leif a lot of support last night. He didn't rush in, as Szmodics does sometimes, he came back, looked at the potential space, but cut out the space forcing the Chelsea player to play it back. Whereas if you rush in and don't get the ball Leif suddenly has 2 players to defend against. My Chelsea supporting (of 50+ years) mate thought Broadhead was the best Town player last night, he was also impressed by Burns. He even made the point, that was Cucurella least influential match this season, and he put that down to Burns forcing him backwards Strangely I thought Delap's performance against ManU was even better than his performance last night.

When you've got Delap & Hutchinson in the side the question has to be how can you get them involved in the game and get it in to Delap quicker, we did that well last night from back to front.

Is that a luxury place for a cat to sleep? A velour futon especially designed for moggies?

Broadhead worked so hard last night, absolutely busts a gut to run off Delap for the 2nd goal which took Tosin with him and gave Hutchinson a yard to get his shot away. As you say out of possession he was excellent, but also has that bit of quality on the ball too. Its interesting there was a lot of talk about Clarke recently and he's got a lot of what Broady has technically, if he can add that maturity and discipline that Broadhead shows as well he'll be a valuable option. Hopefully that comes.

Has been a weakness of his for a long time. He, typically, does not put in enough defensive and pressing work ahead of Davis.

Surely he will? He's such a clever player. His awareness of what is around him is top and he is so comfortable in tight areas. He makes things happen with those quick feet. I love Szmods but I think having Broady there means we have more of a threat of a clever ball through to attacking players.
There were a few things that clicked last night, it was night and day compared on 11:01 - Dec 31 with 783 views | Trequartista | I think it was more night and dusk than night and day. On another night Chelsea could have done what Newcastle did, I thought Chelsea were excellent until our second goal but a) we played at our maximum in all departments and b) the luck went our way. Chelsea were on a different level to say Man Utd when they came down here.
