All I'm going to guess is that it had been done for a good chunk of time before it was announced. Long enough for the club to brief the media and give them a 10:30pm embargo.
Did anyone else notice that Phil's programmed tweet manage to beat the official announcement from the club?
I don't know if it could be kept sufficiently under the radar, but perhaps the club decided to delay the announcement in order to keep Brighton guessing? If Emery was playing a straight bat when he said that Villa's Malen deal was contingent on Philogene's exit, I wouldn't have thought they'd have announced DM until JP's transfer had been completely and irrevocably confirmed.
As the Good Book says - "For what shall it profit a club, if they shall announce a transfer immediately, and lose the element of surprise over that week's opponents?"
