We were playing Forest Green and Morecambe not so long ago so you have nothing to complain about.

I’m the most positive town fan going. Why wouldn’t you be positive after all these years?

But these posts are getting tedious now.

If anybody doesn’t know where we’ve come from then they are a moron.

Sick and tired of this excuse. What's the use of promotion then if there is no continuous pursuit of improvement and excellence? Might as well stick around in the lower leagues and be a big fish in a small pond

I don't think its an excuse so much as giving some people much needed perspective.

And that £150m still leaves us way behind ANYONE else in this league.

You're just looking to be critical if you don't understand where we still are in the hierarchy.

We don’t need perspective. What’s the point of back to back promotion and celebrating reaching the premier league if you aren’t going to compete and just tick it off as a nice experience that we played there again for the first time in 22 years ?

People that use this excuse and get all gushy about how REALLY sh!t we were for the best part of 20 years really DON’T get football.

If we are going to bounce back and give it the big gun about being premier league, let’s at least give it a good go ! We have 15 or so games left to show we are big time not little visitors from the other league.

So we may as well just played with the same 11 and banked the cash and gone down with the cash and become a REALLY wealthy championship club.

But we are giving it a go. Yes we've been battered by Man City and Liverpool, but we aren't the first and won't be the last and we're still in with a chance. It's not like we're in Southampton's position!

It is a worthy riposte to people calling for McKenna's head, saying we're embarrassing, etc.

What has that got to do with the OP. Very nice of you to be splitting the £150m bill with the owners though.

So just be a relentless ungrateful bellend of a fan never enjoying anything? Is that your answer? Do you not think we're doing our best at competing currently? With what we have at our disposal. Progression isn't always a straight upwards trajectory. It may take a bounce or two ala Bournemouth in the current climate. Personally I think you may be out of touch with what football has become in terms of what competing is.

If you're going to use the value of players to judge how well a team should do, I've got some bad news for you:

Or good news maybe, as we're over-performing by two league places.

Explain your logic? Do you want to remain in the Championship forever rather then have the chance of becoming established in the Premiership?

If we're to become an established Premiership club, it will take time and be painful (result-wise) at times. This is how it is now - there is a gulf between the EPL and the EFL, and either you accept mediocrity in the EFL, or you have ambition and a plan to get a foothold in the EPL.

I want us to be playing the best teams in the world every week, and over time compete more closely. Maybe it will take years, but we won't get there if we accept what you propose.

What is the attraction of just being a 'REALLY wealthy championship club"?

No, it's really not that. £150M is naff all in this league (and it isn't £150M, it's about £125M). Even with what we've spent we are still have the lowest value squad in the league and haven't spent a fraction of what other teams have been able to spend on their current squads.

We are competing.

That’s why we CAN give the next 15 games a real go.

Everything to play for.

Correct. And we are. So, your point was?

Were you expecting us to win at Anfield against 'possibly the best team in the world right now"?

Maybe your expectations are a tad off the mark.

Wealthy for whom?

If you can't accept that a transfer kitty of £100m / £150m / £200m still placed us at a significant disadvantage this season, that's on you. It isn't the club's failing.

Obviously to progress we needed to spend the money, and more wisely the better. To me it looks like we haven't spent that money as successfully as we would have hoped to, but we have upgraded the team and we've bought at least one diamond (Delap has shined brightly enough already to know this). Have we made a loss on our total outlay? I'm not sure we have but it may be tight, if everyone went to auction in the summer.

We're still in touch with 17th, which is probably fortunate given our points total, but newly promoted teams need a bit of luck. One season of survival, however fortunate, and you're suddenly in pole position against the next crop of newly promoted clubs. No spending and we'd have been Southampton with a worse GD.

How long wa it before we even laid a glove on them? Alright it was a dodgy tackle but at least he had a go! And he is only a loan player.

I'll never forget that or be proud what the club and coaching staff have achieved.
But I don't want to be a mirror image of Norwich and just be in the PL to make up the numbers, and at the moment that's is how we look.

I never expected to beat Man City or Liverpool but neither team will have an easier game this season than the last two.
Where is the f**king fight from the players

That has nothing to do with your original post. We're in the Premier League, and we've competed in more games than not. We've also won some games. So that addresses your original post.

Today we were outclassed, as expected. Would I have liked to have seen more 'fight' earlier in the game? Maybe, but not through dodgy tackles if that's what you mean, and not if it meant we ended up on the receiving end of a complete thrashing.

This game will not mean the difference between survival and relegation - it will be the games we play against others in the survival mini-league. As posted elsewhere, if we beat Southampton next week, that is progress towards survival.

I think the issue is we our progress was too quick for our scouting team and academy to develop. We've had no academy player in the last two squads, and we're having to overpay for young British talent because we cannot exploit the overseas market like Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford and Forest, for example, can. And we're getting less value for money - Delap aside - in the process.
