We will be fine in the Championship 17:44 - Feb 8 with 3219 viewsMullet

Can’t read huge amounts into today, but it was a good reality check of how big the jump is. Coventry had plenty of solid second tier players out there today and we barely broke a sweat.

Palmer looks like he’s a decent keeper, no idea if that means he’s a Prem one though. Doesn’t really matter today, the poor goal wasn’t the keepers fault for me.

The one black cloud is Szmodics. His injury seemed to come from nothing and he looked in real trouble. After seeing Wes up close last week, he was at least able to hobble off. Bar that, the fact Godfrey and philogene didn’t work together at all was the most obvious gripe.

Delap made me laugh. We’d already won and he was trampling tired defenders to win the ball and keep the pressure up. But the real star was Jack Clarke. Shyly taking the adulation at full time, he looked night and day from the little boy lost we’d seen all season.

I'll give a shout out to Townsend, who I thought was more than decent.

Palmer is your 7/8 out of 10 keeper as I have posted elsewhere - solid and we need that right now.

SS looked annoyed - hopefully more frustration that thinking it's bad - hopefully a week or two and he'll be fine.

Jaden, an odd game, some pretty awful stuff mixed in with a few nice runs and touches and a lovely finish....an enigma in the making it seems!

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...

I want to actually watch a game where Townsend plays. He seems a real solid 7/10 every week type player. Does his job. Ain't heard a single negative comment about him.

Defends well, gets up and down and similar runs to Davis, decent on the ball.

Yes, a solid player indeed. A lot to like if not as dynamic as Davis.

Thought he wasn’t the best today. Passing and crossing wasn’t upto much too often for me. B it he wasn’t terrible

Was about to say I think every pass/cross into the box either went out of play or comfortably to an opposition player! Decent engine on him though.

Yep, his tame surrender of possession in a good position lead to the corner, also poorly given away, they equalised from.

Still a better performance than from our other full back who looked a bit lost at times. Still not quite sure what the plan is for Godfrey.

Yes that was pretty rubbish.

Agree re: Godfrey - assume he's a bit more experienced cover for Tuanzebe but I wouldn't feel completely comfortable if he was in the starting line up for a Prem game. As Mullet alluded to I worry that our right hand side is, rather predictably, going to be a bit of a problem area for the rest of the season.

With Philogene it seems a bit of a loss of confidence after a frustrating first half of the season, maybe the goal helps that or maybe we only get the benefit of his ability next season.

Said on another thread unlikely to be that close to match fit either given he's been sat on the bench for most of the season.

Real shame to have both Burns and Ogbene out as that physicality and direct running would be really useful down that side.

Final boy wasn’t great today.
Yet against Liverpool his final ball was top notch

We’ll be good again... one day

I do wonder if Godfrey can fill in in the centre of midfield too. His pace and ability are assets there given our paucity of quality there.

Johnson looked far better today too which helps.

Johnson too maybe could do a job in central midfield. As for Godfrey, he looks like he’s got physical attributes we could use in the middle of the park but in practice today he didn’t look all that strong, powerful or quick and his touch and passing was pretty god awful too. Hopefully he shook a bit of rust off today.

Thought Hirst was excellent too, I sometimes forget since he’s missed a lot of football over the last couple of seasons. He’s very quick for a lad of his size and his hold up play leaps and bounds above Delap (not taking away what a special talent he is just totally different players). Thete was one really long ball up field that Hirst just pulled out the air on his foot and brought down. Just great link up play.

Agree.

We will be there or thereabouts if we are back in the Championship next season. Will be with Delap, Phillips etc but still a stronger squad than last year for sure and £Millions to spend too.

Thought Hirst was excellent. Pleased for Jack to get goals. So much more comfortable at this level.

As for Philligene. Goal aside, I don’t see a £20m player there as yet, miles off it. Is he not Match fit?

Philogene will be fine. He's clearly not fully fit having not played much this season and was injured just before we'd signed him. Also another one lacking some confidence. Just unfortunate that it may take some time for him to find his feet, something that we don't have but for the long term, he's a good player and one KM and the club clearly liked.

Covalent bonds as my dear old mate Harry would say. We just have precious few partnerships any more.

Philogene will need a bit of time and I suspect after a pre season he will be perfect for us. He’s got all the attributes.

He’s definitely a player who thrives at second tier but like a lot of our squad maybe isn’t robust/ injury proof enough to have taken his chances at the Prem opportunity this season.

Hard to see what Godfrey brings. Tenacious and strong but his distribution has been poor and his attacking contribution negligible thus far. Early days I guess.

I suppose Henners’s point about JP applies to him too, he’s hardly played all season and one of his three games for us we were hammered. Maybe one for next season rathe4 than this but only if we stay up.

Watching the highlights again , he did win the ball for our third goal so there’s that at least.
