Probably because they are looking at what we had before he came in and there doesn't seem to be much of an improvement despite spending another 20 million.
Is he different from all the other options we already had for example.

I think Championship wise (like 97% of them) he will be a gem. But he's absolutely way off Premier League level (like 97% of them).
That said, I don't quite understand the chasing after him for so long and the £22m fee. |  |

I think when you look at who we have to deploy in that position; Broadhead, Szmodics, Clarke - was there a real need to bring in another £20m left sided player - realistically, no.
We have heard KMc talk about balance in the squad, but it now looks incredibly unbalanced in the area.
You would presume Philogene will be a key player for our plans though with KMc being a long term admirer. |  | | |

I think people are writing him off at PL level at the moment. I'm sure he has a good future ahead of him but he's not PL level at the moment.
Personally I'm not surprised. Uni Emery is a top manager and he said Philogene isn't PL ready yet and that's why they let him go. Replaced him with Asensio, who scored a couple of goals yesterday.
That doesn't mean Philogene won't be a top PL player in a few years. Trouble is, in Jan did we need players to make a difference now in the PL, or in a few years. I think the vast majority expected players to make a difference now. |  | | |

Yes as a premier league player I am writing him off, he’s not quick enough or powerful enough Ito Compete at the highest league, I also think from what I have seen Clarke looks more technical with better control also. Philogene will be a great championship player but not more for me, just an opinion but not seen anything from him, even last season when he scored a few didn’t look like a 20 mil player. | | | |

I would not write him off, he is improving every match all be it from a low base. I assumed he was 19-20 years of age, still growing. Isee he is 23 so that limits how much he will fill out. I fear he will always be an easy pushover for the athletic freaks in the premier. But I think there is much more to come skill wise, which will show with increased confidence. | | | |
