Will prefix this by saying we all know the levels of this league and relegation is no surprise whatsoever.
However, for me over recent weeks, I’ve had enough of little victories, fine margins, the noise that we are miles better the other promoted sides, blaming of officials or desperately searching for positives in amongst all the bad.
Just not good enough on a number of levels the second half of the season. Of course the club is in a good place, the fanbase is right behind the players and we have a lot to look forward to and be optimistic about.
However, in isolation I think it’s perfectly fair to question why this season quite so south, in particularly since January.
Now we are into the final game, I've got to say recruitment at best was a C- for me and I hope it’s good enough to get us back up next year. Still a big summer ahead on that front as well. We will be one of if not the favorite to get back. Need to get some confidence back and fast. |  | | |  |

Think the confidence factor is the overriding one to be honest. I know some wet blankets on here are desperate to believe we've played awfully every week but it just isn't true.
We got rocked by a couple of big defeats in January, played the Southampton game really jittery then once that was lost it felt like everyone associated with the club slumped their shoulders.
Get the recruitment right in a couple of key areas over the summer and get off to a good start next season and we'll be fine. Obviously we won't have the same momentum to push off from but (while I'm not saying it will be a stroll) I do think people have forgotten how big a drop off the quality of the Championship is. |  |

It’s true confidence and momentum is important in sports but we haven’t delivered at any point against sides in or out of form really. Lots of reasons why it hasn’t gone our way but there’s been a few worrying traits. Overall, considering the net spend I haven’t been thrilled with the recruitment. [Post edited 18 May 17:10]

A very measured post JJJJ. 2pts from the other promoted sides tells its own story, but many saying we were so much better than both of them. Looks like we are going to finish below Leicester, so no progress there. After 38 games or 37 in this case, the league doesn’t lie. Ultimately, we are on the same par as both Southampton and Leicester……none of those sides are very good at this level. | |

I can accept the relegation but now we are not even the best of the worst. Surrendered 3rd bottom rather than 17th which was always going to be the case after taking ages to get a win at both the start of the season and the year 2025. | | | |

There’s been upgrades, doing a season with Harry Clarke and Mass starting at this level we’d have finished rock bottom but there’s not been enough physicality in the signings and we have overspent (I think) on a few players that have a similar profile.
We also obviously got the keeper one completely wrong as well. I think I’m being fairly generous with a C- but if they get us promotion next year and some keep progressing maybe it all shakes out for the good. Need to shop abroad if we make it back, that’s where the value is for players playing at the top level overseas, not just English guys a league below. However, they obviously have to want to come which is a challenge in itself. | | | |

The issue is and Luongo and, earlier in the season, Hirst were the only two players who we upgraded on to an adequate level. Others have perhaps been incremental improvements, but not for the Premier League.

Generally speaking, I'm just about happy enough to accept that the main reason we've failed to stay up (or come closer than we have done) is the difference in quality between us and most of the other teams. Wolves were the team to chase down for much of the season and when we played them at PR we had Sam Morsy and Jack Taylor against two starters for Brazil in midfield ffs.
I'm not so down on recruitment, though I do think we should have gone harder to get some more experienced heads in, as we were always likely to end up with a bit of a 'Championship Super Team' just down to the nature of our relative position in the food chain. We gambled on Kalvin Phillips being a marquee signing to get that experience and quality but that's just not worked out at all has it, to put it mildly. | |

And that tells its own story. Both of those sides should have been better equipped than us having been in the PL recently and retaining some PL-experienced players. Just take today for example. We pepper their goal for 15 minutes and then on their first attack they have the quality to make it count and Vardy slots it home. Hutch would have slotted it wide the form he’s in.
Yet they’re both miles off it too, so I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect us to be safe. Hope for it, sure. But not expect.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens next season. We need a team to break this run of promoted teams coming straight back down easily. If all three go down again, it’ll looking like the PL is now a closed shop. |  |
