Football fans eh? 17:13 - May 27 with 1919 views | Illinoisblue | Just saw a Town fan on X moaning that the Delap transfer has gone on too long. The season finished, what, about 48 hours ago? Let the longest of long summers begin!

Football fans eh? on 17:16 - May 27 with 1607 views | _clive_baker_ | Not to mention the fact the transfer window (V1) doesn't open until 10th June. I imagine the deal will happen very soon after that date.
Football fans eh? on 17:17 - May 27 with 1600 views | textbackup | TS suggested that he wants a move back to the north west. And Everton have joined the party too. I actually think I’d rather play for Everton over Manu these days. (Even though a few weeks back I thought Everton would be a boring destination) could work out for us better tho. If he goes up another level or 2, Everton sell him to a big big boy for £50/60m… we then make money from that with a sell on. If he goes to MUFC, and goes up a level or two, they’ll just keep him.

Can we include a sell-on? Unless it's part of the release clause why would anyone agree to a sell-on?

I suspect that there will be a schedule at the back of his contract that outlines some pre-agreed conditions of the release clause. Other than that, I assume we (Ashton) will be spectators in terms of this deal. Delaps agent will just call Ashton to tell him when the deals done. [Post edited 27 May 17:21]

Absolutely no idea. Just thought it was standard practice in many transfers with good young players.

Everton were one of the clubs he spoke to last week but Moyes said they’re way down the list.

Can't the deal be agreed and signed before the window - he just can't be registered by them until it opens?

Would be fascinating to be involved in a transfer (or just watch in as a supporter) I’d love to know how it all works, who says what, what involvement the player actually has etc.

I have always wanted to see a players contract. But incredibly none have ever made there way in to the public domain. I always wondered if Arsenal's Freddie Ljunberg had a 'cant go into space' clause in his contract as history suggests he might. How amusing to see some of the oddities that some may have in.

Indeed, I think Chelsea has always been his preferred choice.

It’s nothing more than a couple of contract negotiations with the appropriate clauses. First contract is between the buying and selling clubs regarding cost, payment terms and additional clauses. Second contract are the players terms. Player will have some involvement and discussion with the manager/head coach of buying club but majority of negotiation is done by players agent/lawyers and club lawyers/director of football/ceo. Generally contract negotiations are pretty boring, especially when it is left with the legal teams to finalise the red lines and draw up the contract.

Ideally you’d need a whistleblower agent or something, to call out the goings on. I’d love to see the process from manager speaking to chairman about player X, chairman calling agents, etc etc. Realise I’ve absolutely no right to see that. But would be interesting all the same

Or a buy-back clause for when we are in the Champions League in a couple of years?

Yes it was initially definitely. He once said that one of the things he considers when thinking where to go, is whether he knows someone at the club. Well he was at Man City with Cole Palmer, and Maresco coached them both I believe. Maresco is hoping that Cole Palmer will be able to persuade Delap to go to Chelsea.

We can hope that there is such a clause, but it's highly unlikely. Delap came to us with huge self belief and was able to dictate terms as there were a number of clubs after him. With a buyout clause of £30m, all any club has to do is meet that, and it is up to him (and his agent) to pick whichever one they want. As you say, we will just be bystanders. No sell on clause. We have to content ourselves that we had him for a year, and made a profit of a few £M on him. The only good thig about a sell on clause is that it is in effect the player asking for a move, so we dont have to settle the rest of his contract (wages).

Maybe, maybe not. It wouldnt surprise me if his camp allowed a standard sell on clause, as it wouldnt materially affect his position We'll probably never know..
