Philogene 20:29 - Aug 23 with 1506 viewsPortman_Pie

Heading toward the top of the worst ever signing in our history so far based on his a) Price b) effort and commitment in the games he’s played and c) stage he’s at as a player positionally - simply doesn’t have a clue what’s expected of a winger (for a winger)

Currently making Lee Martin look like a brilliant signing.

He's made 10 league appearances... 🤣

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

While of course you’re correct; he doesn’t look like a 23M player either.

Both Clarke and Philogene together are an utter disaster. Yet KM seems to think that’s the first choice pair. If we’re lucky - we might make top half this season - but highly unlikely.

Yet.
People seem to forget footballers are human; a price tag doesn't guarantee instant performance.
His Hull and England U21 performances suggest there's plenty of talent there, it needs unlocking. I'm not sure how publicly writing him off after 10 games helps.

Yeah I’ve watched a fair bit of him, I just think it’s an overpay tbh. Most villa fans agree as well. He should be good at this level us though, although not sure his natural position helps Leif bombing forward either.

Accusing Philogene of a lack of commitment and effort is harsh. His out of possession work is very good.

My thoughts exactly. The reason I have faith it will work long term is because he is so hard working and effective off the ball, its the on the ball confidence which is letting him down.

This is kind of how Omari started - his off the ball work was the first thing to stand out. Philogene's pressing work against Southampton was hugely successful - must have won the ball in their half 4 or 5 times. He just needs to take his man on now when he has the ball

To say he lacks effort is clearly wrong

Nonsense

Also everyone conveniently forgets that Lee Martin had a good run of games playing well when Jewell used the diamond.

Not even in the worst top 100. But nice try

It disappointed me the two times he was offside yesterday. However, it was only because Clarke is so low on confidence that he was passing the ball there instead of bearing down on goal himself.

And was very good under Mick too for half a season.

Philogene is nowhere near the worst player for us, although the price tag will make it seem that way. From what I’ve seen though so far; he absolutely has done nothing to suggest he’s worth that much here. Same with Clarke - although both were fantastic for their former clubs, so it seems like an Ipswich issue.
