I agree. Players should not be able to gather for a team meeting like that, it just encourages goalkeepers to go down so the team can discuss tactics.

We would never do that for a goalkeeper. For a Chappers/Hutchinson role though …

Yeah, Chappers was famous for his 20-minutes-in tactical sit-down!

They use the goalkeeper because he doesn't have to go off for 30 seconds afterwards.

Fully aware of that. The only time I seem to recall us using a keeper was at Cambridge in the pizza cup.

I know a top level physio who works for EFL (and PL poss) clubs. They have code words so the staff know whether it’s a genuine injury or tactical fall over. It’s nuts really, as it’s obviously gaming the system. If the staff know about it, I find it highly unlikely the officials and therefore the EFL don’t know how clubs are cheating. But nothing’s done about it, so maybe they don’t know or just don’t care.

Hopefully we can get a quick lead and build on it so we don’t have to suffer that.

I hate it, but it's hard to know what to do when teams use the keeper. You can't take them off like an outfield player and even if everyone realises what is going on you can't prove whether a player is actually injured or not.

One of their fans has said that they do it every match and it works very well. Changes the momentum of the game.

Well change the laws... in the event a goalkeeper has to recieve treatment the captain has to go off for the 30 seconds or whatever?

If the keeper goes down and needs treatment then a centre back goes off for 1 min. Simple

Making it position based is open to all sorts of arguments... every team has to have a captain so thats why i chose to state that

File this under 'dark arts' which a lot of fans were encouraging us to be better at last season. Can't complain when it happens to us on Tuesday or any other game.

If they want to put a stop to it, just make the team nominate an outfield player to go off for one minute.

Actually make it a proper deterrent.... play restarts with a corner to the opposition ! That may be unfair in some circumstances but so is life!

Its Charlton, formerly of league 1. The absolute divisional home of Football Sh!thousery. Probably the worse league for lack of entertainment in English Football.

I would suggest that treatment on the pitch should only happen for clearly serious injuries or head injuries. Otherwise the player has to leave the pitch for treatment. In the case of a goalkeeper, the reserve keeper should be allowed on as a temporary substitute. If the reserve keeper has already been used for whatever reason, a remaining sub on the bench has to wear a goalkeeper jersey and be ready to come on if needed.

Whether the goalkeeper change is enough or an outfield player should leave as well is a separate question. Generally the game gets broken up and a lot of time lost partly due to injury breaks which are entirely unnecessary and do not happen in other sports.

Something that benefitted us massively in the League 1/Championship season. Would regularly swing momentum in our favour.
