It’s not the defence, it’s the other end!!! 22:19 - Nov 28 with 1896 viewsWallingford_Boy

We will finish 11th.

We are miles away.

I live in Oxford and they can’t believe it, literally laughing at us.

FML.

You live in Wallingford which is closer to Reading than Oxford and furthermore nobody cares if you're posh mates are laughing at you you just better hope that Cambridge win the boat race.

Errr...both goals tonight came from defensive mistakes. If you can't keep goals out then you don't get any points.

I’ve been saying this for weeks. We’re not taking enough of our chances.

Matusiwa’s gift put us on the backfoot, in another game that we dominated, but again - we failed to take the majority of our big chances. They did. That’s been the difference in several games this season.

I still think we’re doing a lot right, but we have to solve this failure to take more big chances if we’re going to get promoted. There is an element of luck with burying those good opportunities we getting, but it doesn’t seem to be balancing out right now, which points to a lack of sharpness or calmness when presented with a good chance.

I’m certainly not panicking, but we need to solve this soon.

Egeli’s shot in the first half… he HAS to score that. Hirst unlucky with his flick just past post and then again when keeper saved with his face.

But goal aside we really didn’t create clear good chances.

We are moving the ball to slow, we arent putting the ball in behind teams like we used to. No cut backs, players arriving on the end of things in the box.

We are such a long way from the attacking team we were.

I agree that's it's our attack that is letting us down in games like this.

But saying we're miles away when we could've gone second tonight is laughable.

I also live near Oxford (actually closer to Swindon) and I’m just happy that I can be in bed for 11.

It’s hard to know exactly how the independent statistics are assessed, but these do suggest you are wrong - we’re down as having 3 ‘big chances’ and taking none. I’ll have to rewatch the game to be sure, but I do remember a couple of times when I thought ‘we should have buried that’.

We’re obviously not miles away, being 3 points off 2nd.

We aren’t playing well I agree, but this isn’t the Hurst era some are treating it as

It used to be in the McKenna team DNA, but
1) have we stopped trying to do it?
2) are the new team members not able to/ individually disciplined enough to apply the concepts?

A lot might just be bonding as a team

But I feel that we have nudged away from some of the basics that made us successful. Small areas of set up and direction that have shifted than make us a much less effective unit.

No but we’re only 3 points off 2nd due to other teams also being crap!

21/22 - you’d be 7th - 11 points off 2nd
23/24 - you’d be 8th - 12 points off 2nd
24/25 - you’d be 7th - 8 points off 2nd

We may of been unbeaten in the last 6 games prior but performances haven’t been very good. A result like tonight has been coming, it took us 30 games to lose 4 games in 23/24 and 37 to lose 5 and we’re lucky it’s not that as the weather saved us in Blackburn.

It’s not been good enough considering the squad we have!

Yes conscience been a issue but people dont realise thst a new manager would be extremely disruptive and push us back years if progression , the fact we are competing near the top shows how competitive we are now common sense needed and glad all these fans arent in charge with their fickle knee perk reactions

Exactly this, we have enough skill in the squad but why oh why are we so pedestrian?
Could we please have some crisp passing not dwelling on the ball for so long.
The passes are telegraphed, safety first, giving the opposition time to reset, plus the receiving player is now tightly marked, only option he has is to pass it back.
We all know, as no doubt the opposition coaches know, that our wingers are going to come inside, yes creates space for an over lap but leaves us exposed to the counter ( their second goal )
Obviously the tactic of the “winger” swapping to the other side has fallen out of favour!
In our case we have two players who play on their “ wrong side” looking to come inside all the while.
Surely we could mix it up for a bit.

As was said before, we were 12 points better off at this stage two seasons ago

But some of that is understanable with the overhaul and relegation, we are also a target now, which we weren't before

Or it’s because other teams are better this year than previous seasons. Your glass is obviously half empty.

Possibly, maybe tactics have changed

I felt a lot of teams were weakened by CoVid, there's a lot more money sloshing around. Wrexham have spent £38 million on transfers, that's absolutely mental really
