| New manager 10:43 - Jun 11 with 1671 views | north_stand | I think it unlikely that we will go for O’Neill, although the bookies usually get things right, given that his teams play a different formation, and I do understand that we may have a lot of new players next year, a more likely candidate would be solskaer he plays the 4231 worked with Martin pert aand the new scouts at united has been spotted at pr earlier on this season and may get the very best from Egeli as he is from Norway, it would be a lot less upheaval if he can retain much of the existing coaching staff especially with the start of the season not far away, many of the other choices are wrong for us or not attainable. | | | | |

McKenna also wasn't even included in the odds as an option for us when we got him.
| New manager on 10:49 - Jun 11 with 1563 views | Cheltenham_Blue | Given the timing (window opens in 4 days), I'm not sure we go for anyone still in a job. We'll be looking at high level candidates who are immediately available. OGS makes a lot of sense, as there would be no need to replace the backroom staff, its very much a case of 'as you were' for staff and players. | |

Yep OGS is definitely the continuity candidate, and probably someone Kieran recommended

| New manager on 10:55 - Jun 11 with 1447 views | SuffolkPunchFC | "...although the bookies usually get things right..." There are stats on this that show the exact opposite. Less than 25% of the time do the bookies get it right when it comes to replacement managers. The odds are only usually aligned with reality in the 24-48hrs before an appointment is made, by which time it's usually widely know who will get the job. | | | |

With hindsight, was the fact that Town were actively looking for a new manager for the past couple of weeks, maybe a bit more, that some were wrongly putting the two together and coming up with 5?

Anyone remember Marc Bircham!? I wonder how short his odds actually got
| New manager on 11:25 - Jun 11 with 1160 views | Broadbent23 | The appointment of O'Neill would stink because of the Norwich connection. Unless he guaranteed we would win our first three Prem matches. A bird can change their colour from yellow to blue like Nunez. Probably an older manager to get us embedded in the Prem. Brendan Rogers would be a safe bet, maybe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could also come into the equation. | |

The problem with OGS as a continuity candidate is that as soon as KMc gets another manager's job he potentially comes back and takes the bulk of the existing coaching team with him.
| New manager on 12:08 - Jun 11 with 981 views | Billywitch | I actually think that with Mr.McKenna leaving to take a break that he might even have some input to his successor. His input would be really valuable, sound out a new man to understand their styles/approach | | | |

Not so easy if they're all tied up with contracts by that point.

I've been imagining that that could very well have happened over the last fortnight. KMcK obviously cares about the club and would want his successor to be in the same mould, surely.

| New manager on 12:23 - Jun 11 with 839 views | itfc_statman | Problem as a newly promoted club is you're basically either chasing managers from abroad who want to prove themselves in the prem but can't get a job at an established club - or alternatively a prem manager who's had a couple bad jobs and is willing to risk another relegation on his cv. | | | |

I'm sure the interview process will involve some sort of presentation around what a manager can/will bring. So with that in mind, Mr.McKenna could look at that and feed back into Mark Ashton around how X number of players in the squad could adapt/fit this style. But at the same time could also suggest a huge overhaul is required because they wouldn't fit. Interesting one isn't it. Would love to be a fly on the wall to see how it all plays out. and FWIW I personally believe we'll see him back at Ipswich at some point of his career

We could take a gamble on McKenna in League One, given where we were, as we had the financial clout to out muscle everyone else, just so happened we got a Messiah to boot. This time is completely different scenario for Ashton, so much at stake here, gambling is not an option (albeit all managers are a gamble to a degree) so he'll have to do something he hasn't done before and bring in experience, he's always brought in young, unproven managers.
